Beachy Head Walk & Towner Art Gallery visit

Join us for an optional joint 4-5 mile walk with Brighton & Hove Ramblers (come just for lunch and afternoon gallery visit if you prefer) with wonderful views over Beachy Head and Eastbourne, followed by pub lunch at Beachy Head Pub and visit to the award-winning contemporary art museum Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne for :-

People and Portraits Exhibition (free)

Every portrait painting tells a story, connecting us to people across time and place. This collection display encompasses a variety of images and styles, including historical and formal portraiture, narrative scenes and self portraits. Key Towner Collection artists such as Edward Bawden, David Bomberg and Christopher Wood are represented, whilst some intriguing lesser known artists and works are also revealed.

The Lyons Teashops Lithographs: Art in a time of Austerity(£5.50)

In the post-war years, catering giant J. Lyons & Co. commissioned three series of lithographs from some of Britain’s most popular artists – including Edward Bawden, John Piper, David Gentleman, John Minton, William Scott and John Nash – to combat a wartime decline in the interior decoration of their famous teashops! We will be showing all three series of lithographs from the Towner Collection, alongside some of the original paintings and working drawings. Step back in time to experience a Great British institution at a time when great art overcame austerity.

The meeting point for lifts is at the West Side Of The Level (Ditchling Rd side) at 10am , opposite the Caroline Of Brunswick Pub. Please contribute to the driver's petrol if you receive a lift. Some Brighton and Hove Ramblers members will also be there, not sure of nos. We will of course meet at the Beachy Head Pub at 11.30am for the walk, or 1.15pmish for lunch in the pub and then at the Towner at about 3pm. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday! Clive[masked]
