I like a mix. I love it when a game makes you constantly improvise, especially when it's also the kind where you can ponder best strategies afterwards. It puts me off games when they require too much memorising (unless it's chaotic, like in Avalon) or when it relies too much on whether I can be bothered to strain my brain (like in chess). I like Kanban, A Study In Emerald, Terra Mystica, Imperial 2030, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Hansa Teutonica, Lords of Vegas, Puerto Rico, Shadows Over Camelot (kind of), Nothing Personal, The Resistance: Avalon, The Manhattan Project, Thunder Alley etc.
One day I need to play Napoleon's Triumph, which I own - but it's a bit big for the pub.
I spend my days battling journalists and my evenings .. well.. the same. Cos I'm always on-call!
