The Denver Lovecraftian Gaming Society is a meetup group for people who appreciate Lovecraftian and mythos inspired style horror and mystery that also like to play tabletop roleplaying games and/or play board games, and get to know fellow gamers over coffee, drinks, food, movies, etc.
Whether you’re a seasoned roleplaying gamer or only enjoy the occasional board game, or don’t even know what RPG stands for, this community can be for you. If the idea of delving into the secrets of an uncaring alien universe in order to save humanity from monsters and insanity inducing terrors from beyond the stars catches your fancy, then this is the group for you.
H.P. Lovecraft was an American horror writer who published numerous stories throughout the 1920s and 30s. He is the founding father of the ever-expanding Cthulhu Mythos of cosmic horror — both a pantheon of terror inducing gods and monsters and a viewpoint that the ultimate truths of the universe are not meant for mortal humans to know.
There are a number of great games based in the Cthulhu Mythos: The Call of Cthulhu RPG by Chaosium; Trail of Cthulhu RPG by Pelgrane Press; Achtung Cthulhu! RPG from Modiphius; Arkham Horror and Mansions of Madness board games, etc.
As a long time RPG'er who has not played as often as I would like since moving to Colorado and just recently assuming Organizer duties of this group (Sept 2016), my goal is to build a community of gamers that not only want to meet and play RPG's and board games, but also want to get to know fellow gamers. I would venture a guess, that many gamers are a bit on the introverted side and some may have difficulty just posting a game, a call for players, or looking for a gaming group with a bunch of strangers. So we will also include several casual meet and greets where members can gather to see new faces, see longtime members, or just want a fun meetup in a non-gaming environment over drinks, coffee, or whatever.
The focus of the role playing games do not have to be just Cthulhu specific RPG's like CoC; ToC; Achtung Cthulhu; etc., it can also be other horror and mystery themed games and campaigns.
When I gamed frequently back in the 1990's I used to blend some mythos/cosmic horror inspired themes and plotlines into my RPG campaigns from other game systems like D&D and White Wolf's World of Darkness series. So if you are running a game or campaign that may be D&D, Pathfinder, WoD game series, Cyberpunk, Warhammer, Ars Magica, or a gaslight, steampunk, pulp, or dieselpunk themed game or whatever - if it has a horror or mystery theme or plotline or if it specifically draws from the Cthulhu mythos then feel free to post it.
We are looking for people interested in hosting events - whether that is a casual meetup in a non-gaming environment over coffee or drinks or if you have a game or campaign to run. See our discussion boards for details.
I took over Organizer duties September 3, 2016, after previous organizer Eli stepped down and moved out of state. There is no cost or member dues for joining this group, but donations will be appreciated, especially if we want this group to be a successful and long lasting community.
