Hey ladies, what happened? Great meeting despite, Ann was a great host and we had some interesting views/ideas about the story. Better turn out next time?

Hi there....I didn't realize the location was outdoors and I didn't bring a warm enough coat. (Or any coat!). Sorry!

    3. Cappy dying seemed unnecessary as a "death of innocence" commentary. In fact, it really pissed me off that this happened, considering the "death of innocence" motif was really nailed over and over again in this story, and more efficiently than I think I've ever read in any other novel. Though I know we'd been teased on Cappy's death early in the story, I didn't know what to make of this other than "real life happens."

    4. Did any of the rest of you feel the round house would play a greater role in the closing narrative? Though I know that would have been too "easy" as a narrative drawstring, I just expected it. Which maybe makes it a good thing it didn't happen. Thoughts?

    5. Though I'm glad we didn't see it, I would be very interested to know ow the Coutts' family dynamic flowed thereafter.

This is the second time in a row I've had to drop out and I'm really bummed about it, especially because I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK. So many people had to drop out last minute that I thought I'd ask some questions so that all of us drop outs could engage with the book. (Feel free to answer after the book club in case you guys answered this already):

    1. What did you think the significance was behind Linda telling Joe toward the end of the book that his father was an ace shooter? It felt to me that the author was trying to convey the father's struggle--that he in fact, had every capability to take Lark down, and that Joe was failing where his father had succeeded, or, if failing is too strong a suggestion, then at least displaying the differences between age and youth.

    2. How did you respond to the lack of quotation marks in the story? At first i resented it, but I came to love it, as it established a parallel to me with Mooshum's storytelling.

Sorry to back out at the last minute; I've got a foot infection that's both painful & uncomfortable, and is rendering me shoeless. I'm interested to hear what others thought of the book, and hope to see you all next month!

I really hate doing this, but I'm so sick I'm going to miss the meet up this month. Hopefully next month goes without a hitch, I'm looking forward to eventually meeting everyone!

Looks like I can't make it this month after all. Didn't have a chance to read the book and won't be able to get to it in time due to the holidays. It's too bad because I read the Amazon sample and really enjoyed it so I know I'll be reading the book...eventually. Hope those who attend enjoy a lively discussion.

Hi Peggy, I just received my copy and won't be able to get to it until after 12/15. Did you want to borrow my copy to read the book? As long as I can get it back from you by the middle of the month, I would be happy to lend it out to you.

    I feel stupid but I don't see the " more" tab! :-(

You can't see it in the mobile view, but in "full website" mode it should show on the top panel. There should be a dot next to it signaling that you have something waiting for you there
