CANCELLED: Thames Kayaking: Big Ben & Back
Monday 5th August 8pm - 10:30
Meet 7.45pm, Cremorne Gardens, Chelsea, SW10 OQH
A summer evening jaunt on the glistening Thames, ideal for those new to kayaking or those looking to try something new in a kayak!
We’ll be on the water for a couple of hours, with the trip planned around the tides, allowing you to glide down river to see Albert Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament in all their splendour before returning to Chelsea on the new flood tide.
We will be paddling in super stable 2 person kayak boats, so no experience is required, and our expert guides will help us master the basics of boat control during the journey.
We will be kayaking from a purpose-built kayaking centre in Chelsea, with excellent facilities and equipment. The kayaks we’ll be using are spacious and stable doubles.
All coaches are highly trained and qualified by the British Canoe Union, fully CRB checked, and have years of kayaking experience. They have a passion for the tidal Thames and brilliant local knowledge.
The centre boasts hot showers and changing rooms, with lockers for your valuables, just bring along a small padlock.
Meet at Cremorne Gardens on the junction of Lots Road and Cremorne Road. Travelling by bus is a good option – the centre is a five minute walk from Battersea Bridge, or the Worlds End stop on the Kings Road.
Imperial Wharf overground station is around a 7 minute walk, and can be reached via Clapham Junction or Shepherd’s Bush mainline stations, or by changing from the London Underground system at West Brompton (District Line). Fulham Broadway and Sloane Square tube stations are both around a 15 – 20 minute walk away.
If you’re on your bike there are railings you can secure your bike to.
What to bring:
A complete change of clothes & footwear (though you’re 99% likely to stay dry!), a padlock, sunglasses/hat.
Kayak hire, splash proof outer clothing, paddle, buoyancy aid, kayak guides.
N.B. the trip is dependent on a minimum number attending.
