Isle of Wight Adventure - hiking, coasteering and sea kayaking

  • September 13, 2013 · 7:00 PM

From historic sites to natural delights, the Isle of Wight is a unique holiday destination. I have rented YHA Totland hostel for our exclusive use and planned a real adventure treat with hiking and a choice of costeering or sea kayaking.

The needles hike on Saturday should take us around 6 hours, leaving enough time to enjoy sandy beaches and local cafes in the afternoon. On Sunday we will get more adventurous. Jumping over rock archways, swimming through wave filled gaps, climbing up cliffs and ducking under water into invisible caves are just a few of the experiences to be had. For those wanting a bit less extreme exercise sea kayaking will be another option. And while you have to be able to swim to do coasteering, you don’t have to for kayaking.

Price: Early bird price of £180 applies if you pay in full by the end of July. On 1st August the price will raise to £205 and if you make the payment after the 20th August you will have to pay the full price of £225.

Please note that the payment needs to be my account by the dates above so please check with your bank when it will arrive when making the payment, otherwise you may miss the deadline and you would then have to pay the difference.

The price includes: Transport, 2 nights’ accommodation, 2 x breakfast (choice of English, vegetarian or continental), 2x picnic lunch, a hike, costeering or sea kayaking. So really, all you will need to pay for is your dinner and drinks.

The deposit of £70 (+ paypal fees) needs to be paid to secure the place. You can pay this either via paypal or directly to my bank account, but if you choose the bank account option please make sure you email me to let me know you have done so (so that I can confirm you) and please follow the instructions on this page: http://www.adventureclub.biz/pages/Bank_account/.

The reminder of the money needs to be paid into my bank account by the 3rd September the latest and the instructions on how to do it are also here: http://www.adventureclub.biz/pages/Bank_account/. If your payment is not received by then you will be removed from the attendees list and your deposit will not be refunded.

Plan of the trip:

Friday 13th September

6:45pm Meeting at the Clapham Junction Station main entrance (the one with Sainsbury’s, costa and café Nero).

If you have any problems please give me a call on[masked] 17. If you are trying to call and not getting through, this may be because 15 other people are also calling me to ask for the way, so please send me a text. As it gets quite hectic when everyone starts arriving and looking for the meeting point, please don't email me or leave a voice mail as I will not have time to check it until after the hike. If you realise last minute that you cannot make it - please change your RSVP and text me.

We will late 15 minutes for any late comers and then make our way to the platform at 7pm sharp. If you are running late you will be welcome to catch up with us at the platform or at the destination but you will have to sort out your own ticket or use your travel card to get in.

We will arrive at the destination at 10:15pm. It is not likely that the local restaurants will be serving food, so please make sure you have something to eat with you. After checking in, you are welcome to go out for drinks.

Saturday, 14th September

We will go for the needles walk. In the evening we will go out for a meal together and you are then welcome to stay on and have some drinks in Totland.

It is 11 miles hike and takes about 6 hours to complete it. It is moderate difficulty.

7pm The Waterfront - restaurant booked.

Sunday 15 September

Due to an early tide we will need to have an early start. The activity is booked for 9am. We will have to leave the hostel around 8:30am to be there in time.

We will have lunch at IOW and leave for London at around 5pm. We should be back in Clapham for 9pm.

IMPORTANT: By taking part in this meet-up you agree to the following disclaimer: I acknowledge that hiking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. My decision to voluntarily participate in these activities is an informed

decision and I am aware of and shall accept such risks. I agree to be responsible for my own actions and involvement in these activities. The organiser does not take any responsibility for my safety.

The activities are weather dependant and if the weather conditions made it impossible to proceed as planned replacement activities will be offered.

Hostel:

Totland YHA has really good reviews and will be exclusively ours. The accommodation will

be in mixed dorms with 4-6 beds each. There are 5 single rooms available at £30 supplement (covers both nights) and these will be allocated on first come first served basis and will only be confirmed once they are paid for. If you are not happy with sharing or mixed dorms accommodation please book a single room. (ALL SINGLE ROOMS HAVE BEEN BOOKED NOW)

We will have to leave the hostel in the same state as we find it – so we will be required to clean after our stay. So please make sure you allocate enough time to do this.

  • Kat

Hi guys, If you are doing coasteering, please bring with you:

Footwear that you don't mind getting wet - old trainers are ideal, but please no flipflops or crocs as these don't stay on when needed.
Swimming costume to wear under a wetsuit.
A large towel for getting changed.
A loose pair of shorts to wear over your wetsuit. It makes moving over rocks much more comfortable and safer.

  • Jimmy

    Hi everyone,

Would anyone like to swap their sea kayaking place for coasteering as I've got a lot on at the beginning of next week and can't afford to knacker myself out too much! :-) If so, please let me know!

    Thanks,
    Jimmy
