WELCOME TO A TRULY HUMAN AND SENSORY CULINARY EXPERIENCE
You are about to live an unbelievable experience: eating and drinking in the pitch darkness.
This idea might seem a little strange at first, but by suppressing the dominant sense of sight, you will enter a world in which one is uncertain of surroundings and experiences.
With the help of our blind guides you are going to completely re-evaluate the notions of taste and smell through our gastronomic and pedagogical process.
Our food, mostly organic, is based on first quality ingredients, making this experience as interesting and tasty as possible. Just choose one of our 4 surprise menus. Please see pictures below for previous surprise menus.
The Red menu : with meat and vegetables
The Blue menu : with fish and seafood
The Green : for the vegetarians
The White : the Chef’s surprise ( it could be anything)
Please note if you do not make your menu selection when you RSVP, you should choose between the White menu (Chef’s special) and the Green menu (Vegetarian) only.
Price: £55 includes 3 courses (starter, main and dessert) and paypal fees. Drinks are not included. This is an early bird price, closer to the event it will raise to £65.

Location: Dans le Noir London is located in the charming Clerkenwell area, on 30-31 Clerkenwell Green, near Holborn and Farringdon, a few minutes walk from the heart of the city. We will take over a private lounge for our special meal. WELCOME TO A WORLD OF SENSE !
Dinner in the total darkness, guided and served by blind people, is a unique experience that changes our perception of the world by reversing our point of view and allows us to completely re-evaluate our perception of taste and smell. It is also a social experience where darkness takes away all preconceptions and protect us from shyness. Finally, it is a richly human experience when the blind becomes your eyes, opening your mind to an intriguing new world of mystery and sensation.
Dive into your imagination and rediscover your senses. This place is totally devoid of vanity, and everyone must go!
You will be welcomed into a bar and lounge area with a warm atmosphere. Our welcome staff will explain you the concept and take your orders.
If you have additional allergies, please let the staff know when ordering so we can adapt your menu. Please remind your allergies to our guides/waiters when they bring your plate in the dark room to avoid confusion.
As you don’t know what you will eat, it’s difficult to choose the wine. Even if we have a wine card selected by Christophe Garnier, our French wine expert, we propose you a surprise wine by glass or bottle adapted to your meal. (please note that the drinks are not included in the prcei and you will have to pay for them separately). You can give the waiters the budget you want to spend in wine and we’ll chose the best adapted offer for you.
After your order is completed, you will have to wait a few moments before your guide comes out of the dark room to take care of your group and bring you to your table in the dark room. During this time you will be asked to put all your bags and coats (prohibited in the dining room) and objects making light (as mobile phone, lighters, etc …) in a locker in the basement. Watches must be kept deep in your own pocket. If you have anything of a value over £300 please contact our staff who will keep it safe or keep it with you but please make sure it doesn’t make light.
It is also recommended to go to the toilets before the dinner as to go during the experience will spoil it for you.
Whenever you are ready to enter the Dark Room, you will be introduced to your guide/waiter who will take care of your group for the duration of the dinner. You then will be taken to your table in the dark.
All guests must follow strict security instructions and never move in the Dark Dining Room without being led by a guide.
You can order additional drinks (not included in the price) in the Dining Room. You can ask anything to your guide/waiter that you can call at any time by his/her first name. He/She will come to you as soon as possible. If you feel uncomfortable or distressed please tell your guide. If you wish, he will be able to take you back to the light.
At the end of the dinner, you will be taken out by your guide. We ask you to watch the ground when you go out and to re-open your eyes carefully because light can be painful after an hour and half or more in the dark.
Coffee and tea are served in the lit bar while you discover with pictures your Menu and compare it with your own opinion. Same for the wine as our staff will tell you what you had to drink.
You can then take your belongings from the lockers and leave … but please, don’t forget to pay for your drinks. Dans le Noir gives a part of teir final profit to charities such as Blind foundation and other causes like Childhood protection.
DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK!
Guests can choose only among a limited choice of surprise Menus. The idea is that each guest should not know exactly what he or she will be eating… just the general category. It’s all about the flavors, the textures and the seasonings. It is an old principle often used in the industry, called “blind tasting”.
The concept behind our menu is to re-educate our customers’ palates and minds, to make them truly experience the flavors being presented. Totally deprived of light, your eyes can’t deceive you, so therefore all preconceptions are gone.
At Dans le Noir they do not ask you what you would like to eat but rather what you cannot eat. They take into account all your dietary requirements when taking the order so we always make certain you won’t have any ingredients you are allergic to or avoid eating for any reasons. Thanks to these precautions, every visitor can explore the adventure and enjoy the great excitement of the surprise menus.
The Surprise Menus are adapted in various alternatives according to the seasons. The menus change every two or three months.
Coffee, tea and other hot drinks, for safety reasons, are not served in the dark but are available in the lit bar at the end of the experience. Wine bottles in the dark will be served with a special sleeve that will keep the bottle from breaking. Pictures of each menu are presented to the guests as they exit in the bar area with a complete description of the menu items. They will also have information on the surprise wines or specialty drinks they ordered.
At Dans le Noir they work mainly with fresh Their cuisine is created by local chefs and inspired by Olivier Romain (a French Chef based in Tours). The approach of cooking at “Dans le Noir” is to increase taste in the dark, and to separate taste in your plate with a pedagogical and interesting organization.
