Great meeting everyone too! Loved the new format, some suggestions:
    1) We know our ecosystem issues, so had hoped to spend more time on solutions and execution plans than listing problems and comparisons.
    2) Format works best when people face each other but went well despite limitations of a largely convex open area
    3) Combine intros with forum chat and replace the fun question with "30 second brief on your solution to <topic of forum>". Keeps it quick with a large audience.

Next, if anyone has ideas to better cross-pollinate our tech builders, let's talk! 15,000 world class engineers, silo'd away. I'm thinking of "DevCon" - a quarterly developers convention that follows specific themes (announced prev quarter) with the main DevCon event being demos of that theme. Details/refinements can be done offline.

Lastly, for rebranding us. I like "TechCoast". Not due to TCA, but just by itself. Covers tech, biotech and also pays homage to our geolocation.

I agree with Steve about TIME, but don't see the relevance of the Olympics. 2024 is a long time to wait, and then you get only hotel room and sports facilities, which seem ill-fitted to tech. If the city has $4B, it would much better use it to set up a DARPA-like agency that supports groundbreaking development and is not trapped in "18-monthism." Genuine pioneering has a huge multiplier, but monocultural increments are just "1 gets you 1".

agree. I was in London until 2009 and they hyped up how the Olympics will fund innovation etc. In the end the usual big construction companies and telcos etc. got loads of money, and zero $$$ ended up in innovation

    It's all about TIME!

    T- tourism
    I - innovation
    M- military
    E - entrepreneurial spirit

Isn't it ironic that the cities which are competing to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games are nearly the same cities that are competing with us for the lead in IoT? LA, SF, Boston, Atlanta...

Please don't be discouraged by today's UT article about our city hosting the games (A6). As Vincent Mudd put it,

"it's not over until it's over"....

Once we are selected, can you imagine how exciting the build-up will be? What investor would not want to be WELL-IN-PLACE by the TIME 2024 comes around?

Once the games are over, just think of the infrastructure left in place to host the world's largest
    SAM/IoT festivals?

We could brand San Diego as TIME
as a Service (TaaS). The city that offers TIME!

Your Dream is Your reward for paying the Price,
    steve

    P. S. Initially, all it will take
is $4B to close and probably San Diego being considered the safest place on the planet to swipe
    your credit card.

It seemed that nobody understood my comment (did they hear it?). I mentioned the lack of support (except via medieval academic tenure) of long-fruition projects, but they seemed to think I was suggesting hiring away professors! But the end result of "18-monthism" is that nothing but incremental change can ever happen, and bad monocultures are perpetuated.

Great to meet everyone and network. Wish we had talked more about IoT & IoT ventures, and less about "the grass is greener on the other side" though

Ulrich - I have a few good papers with macro numbers for IoT. I think Intel, Cisco or General Electric are producing good studies on the embedded and software and hardware market.

Looking for market forecast information (in $ numbers etc) for IoT/embedded/mobile software - does anyone have anything they could share? Also looking for companies focusing on embedded/mobile security testing. Email "Ulrich-lp (at) ObjectSecurity (dot) com" - thanks!
