Internet of Things (IoT)

  • Dec 2, 2014 · 5:00 PM

We are moving toward a world of connected devices at an aggressive pace. Commonly referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT), it is the use of data by business, systems and people to make informed decisions in real time. LTE estimated 2B devices alone by year's end 2017. We are expected to reach 4% of connections by 2015 and 10% by the end of 2018. As we move steadily closer to connecting every person and device in the world, our economic future will depend even more on maintaining a unified global Internet.

As a result, the billions of interconnected intelligent devices will generate insurmountable amounts of data that will need to be secured. This reality will require companies of all shapes and sizes to work collaboratively to ensure efficiency and security.

We strongly believe this is a very important topic that will continue to grow and affect each industry through the convergence of technologies. Join us at the IoT Meetup to continue the discussion.

I published this on LinkedIn last weekend and thought I would share given the adventurous nature of this group(although this is probably old hat for many of you)....

Attached are two VERY COOL videos. The first is a 15 minute video about Arduino from a TED event. Arduino is a MicroController technology used in the "Maker Community". The second is a video that compares the capabilities of the Arduino (MicroController) with the Rasberry Pi (MicroProcessor). If you are like me it's hard to keep up with (let alone understand) the various technologies but these devices are VERY COOL and it is just amazing what kids are doing with these devices and 3-D printing. Maybe they will actually invent teleporting.....can you say, "Beam me up Scotty"....!

It felt a little bit empty without Darin but Maggie and the rest of the crew really held the fort down with no problem. I thought it was amusing to see everybody packed inside and it was so quiet I it was like a candlelight vigil ;-)

Sorry to miss last night. Holding down the fort elsewhere :) I heard the event went really well (was actually getting pics and videos in real time even though I am 9,696 miles away) and that we had a great turnout despite torrential rain. Look forward to seeing everyone soon. Thanks to you, Maggey, Jenny, Robert R, Gary H, the guys from CentrixIT, Jauher and Dr. Smith for making it a great night !!

We have a diverse group of topic leaders at our IoT meetup (75+ RSVPs) next Tuesday. Back by popular demand is Dr. Smith, an optometrist giving a talk on how technology such as smart phones and tablets affect vision. Bill Musson from Splunk has helped sponsor our meetup and is planning to lead a discussion as well as Jauher from Palmchip on advances in IoT devices. We also want to thank Palmchip and CentrixIT for chipping in to help support this event.
