Description

An ideal day out from London, this route takes in Eton college, Windsor Castle, the river Thames and the Jubilee river, a manmade flood channel that has become a haven for wildlife and the perfect picnic destination (bring your own).

Most of the route is along riverside paths, including a route possibly through the Dorney Wetlands and around Dorney lake, a venue for rowing and kayaking events in this year's Olympics.

What types of bikes are suitable?

The route would be suitable for mountain bikes, hybrids and folding bikes. Road bikes may not be suitable.

How do I get to\from the start\end point?

We have scheduled the event for this time to maximise quieter trains and roads. In terms of how you get to the start and from the finish I would recommend using the London TFL website (www.tfl.gov.uk) checking engineering works that day too. Trains run regularly from Waterloo and take just under an hour.

Health and Safety

The route may vary a little due to challenges we hit on the day and each rider is responsible for their own health & safety (helmets, hi-vis vests, hydration, etc). If I cross a junction, doesn't mean its safe for you to!

Please also be aware of your surroundings, pedestrians, other cyclists, dogs, etc. Be courteous and cycle defensively all at all times. We operate a strict leave no man\woman behind policy (unless they want to be of course) so there is no pressure in congested areas.

I carry a simple first aid kit and a puncture repair 'in-a-can' kit (£6 from Decathlon). You are advised to bring a spare inner tube or such a kit also.

Cancellations & RSVP's

The event will be cancelled giving a minimum of 24 hours notice if there is a risk of bad weather. By the same token, if you do not plan to attend please change your RSVP. We operate a strict two strikes and out policy on RSVPing and no shows\late un-RSVPing.

Please check this site on the day of the event before you head to the start point in case of any minor changes. Meetup also have a iPhone and Android app so you can check on the go!

One last thing!

Have fun, enjoy the ride and relax you will be fine ! ;o)

Just returned from a long walk with another group where unfortunately a spike stabbed me in the ankle which is now swollen. I was going to definitely come but now I don't know how my ankle will be in the morning and that's quite important for cycling. Nathan, what is the latest I can RSVP yes? Can I let you know tomorrow?

I hope to join you on this but don't really want to cycle all day in rain so haven't RSVP'd yet - will wait and see what the forecast is saying on Saturday evening. Hope that won't be too late if the weather is OK and I want to come.

I have a folding bike. Assume this is OK even though it could be classified as a bike for using on roads?!

Hi, was meaning to drop you a message. 95% is good for your bike, there is a small bit if memory serves which is a river bed. The route wont be as fast as the usual canal path routes.
