Mountain Bike at Earls Trails

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • I'm suggesting this as a way of gauging general interest among the group for mountain biking. Looking for riding buddies to ride mountain bikes at Earl's Trails in Hadley/Amherst on the Holyoke Range. This is a great system of trails with lots of single track, double track, climbing and downhill sections. We can discuss times/days that work best fir the majority but I am available evenings in the summer and on some weekends.

The trails there are pretty easy not very technical but there is a good amount of climbing...a good place to start aslong as you don't mind some climbing

    September 9, 2013

    • edwina n.

Thanks! I love to climb. but am not good with rocky, rooty terrain as i have a full-on stiff bike.

    Any beginner trails at Earls?

    September 9, 2013

    • Karen

There can be a lot of climbing/descending.....I wouldn't call them beginner but certainly they are easier and more flowing than a place like Bachelor St.

Anyone interested in riding at Robinson Friday 8/30 (I can do almost anytime of day) or anytime that weekend (8/31 or 9/1)?

That Robbinson beginners ride is Saturday at 5:00.

Rode Earl's trails Sunday night with Adam and Chad from Colorado Ski and Bike. It's a really fun flowy network of trails but a little more elevation then Robbinson. Adam and Chad host are hosting a beginners ride at Robbinson every Sunday night at 5:00. Here's the meetup link http://www.meetup.com/Colorado-Ski-and-Bike-Thursday-Night-Road-Rides-Sunday-MTB/

So here's the scoop. This is turning into my new favorite trail network and I'm shooting on being back there on Tuesday around 5:00. If someone wants to jump in, call, text or drop a message here. Doug (508)[masked], [masked]. I'll post if I need to cancel last minute.

Here's Saturdays update. I met Murph (Jamie) at Robbinson on Saturday. All I can say is that boy (50+ year old) rips! He rode a 45lb fat tire bike and he motors on that thing!! It was defiantly a blast ridding with him! The nice part is whatever your technical ability that's what the ride will be geared to. Unfortunately we missed Bill K by a few minutes and end up connecting up at the end. I had such a great time on Saturday I actually headed back on Sunday. The cool part is I ran into Steve who is the master mind behind that trail network and really nice guy! So you may ask why is Robbinson soooo much fun. It's because Steve built a really flowy tail system. No rocks, no jumps, no drops, no balance logs, just fast, flowy hard pack. Plus the trail system will teach you to become a better ridder by leaning your bike through the turns instead of steering it, which really makes ridding a blast.

Sorry I've been MIA--life got a bit busy on me. Sounds like folks are liking Robinson's. I went once but from everyone's comments I think I missed all the really good trails :) Hope it went well!

I just got back from the REI garage sale, jeez they were giving stuff away. REI is awesome! So I'll definitely be at Robinson today at 2:00, Robinson Park School, hope you guys can make it!

    Just putting it out there.
I know Robinson, Stanley park, camp Shepard and a few more local areas.
    Can lead or follow....

    Doug...shot you a message.

So, here's some feedback, I rode Robinson's on Thursday and holy cow that place is awesome!!! It's fast, flowy and hard packed, it's a blast!! There's no technical whatsoever just smoooooth single track. Though there are a couple of root sections, but it's super easy. It's like doing a rode ride on a dirt trail! So I'm probably heading back on Saturday if anyone is interested, shooting for about 2:00. I'm not sure where the best place to start but I left from Robinson Park School. Hope to see someone there! I have a black GTI. Doug

Nice, we have some interest happening here! I might not be able to make it this Monday I may still be up at Kingdom Trails in VT, which I highly recommend. Is there a meeting spot for the Robinson ride? What day and time?

I just rode Robinson's, but I had someone from PV Nemba show me around. May be we could due the same? the guy that showed me around rides their at least 3 times a week, and the trails were very flowy, and where in good shape. A 5:30 start time is works better fro me. Pv Nemba has a Facebook page, and you can ask someone to show you around

I checked out Earl's this week after reading on another site the trails were in rough shape after the heavy rains we had. They are OK now, although the mosquitoes were pretty active. I can't make a 5PM meet time due to work. Robinson's is a bit out of my way for a weeknight night. Sounds like we could have an Earl's ride, a Robinson's ride, and even a beginner ride (maybe at Robinson's? Not as familiar with the system there). Is the preference mostly for weeknights??

    July 19, 2013

If we ride Robinson's, my good friend, and expert rider, could lead.

So, what happened to ridding Earls trails? Sounds like a nice trail system. How about some night around 5?

Robinson's St. park would be a good place to ride for beginner's, and that's one of the places That Pioneer Valley Nemba chapter rides. I'm riding there Monday night at 5:30 starting at Robinson's Park Elementary riding with nemba

    July 5, 2013

    • Karen

I have only been there once and didn't get a chance to check out the whole park--so I don't know the trails well there, but yes another fun spot is Robinson's. Let me know how Monday night goes.

I am a beginner on the mt. bike- I mainly road ride. I'm a teacher, so would be available to ride during the day after 6/26.

      Edwina, I road ride too!

For beginner riders, I would suggest a different location. I like Nonotuck Park in Easthampton for beginners. There are lots of trails, some nice flat loops with enough mud and roots to start practicing some skills. And if people are feeling confident they can ride the singletrack next to the pond (meaning you won't be bored if you are more experienced and want to show up to be social). Could all those interested give me a few weekend dates and times? Summer is starting to fly by....

Karen, have you considered having a no drop social ride and a Intermediate ride for the more experience riders. If you need any help with new mtn bikers I'll be happy to lend a hand. I have been riding over 13yrs now if that helps

Wow! great to see some interest here. Looks like we have some beginners and some more experienced riders. Perhaps I should host 2 rides, one no drop ride for beginners and another no-drop ride for non beginners. What do you think??
