After a long, grey winter nothing will beat a sunshine break training for the new season. I have swaped windy Lanzarote for Alicante, in continental Spain. We won't be in great shape but daily trips to the mountains should kick start our fitness for the 2014 season.
FLIGHTS: We will fly out on Saturday and return on Wednesday. You will need 3 days of annual leave. Your bike will be included in your checked luggage allowance.
We will meet at London Paddington and travel with our bikes on the Heathrow Express train. At Heathrow, we will get our bikes ready for flying (deflating tyres, removing the front wheel, turning tthe handlebars sideways and removing the pedals). I fly my bike with a special carrier bag sold at Wiggle for £10. You may as well want to take a taxi toPaddington having packed your bike at home. The price of the event includes you train ticket to Heathrow and your return train ticket from Gatwick.
CYCLING: I will lead at least 3 rides, one each day on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Rides will be betweenn 45-65 miles long and hilly. We will discover the "Pueblos Blancos", white villages punctuating the mountain slopes. We are likely to have at least one afternoon ride as well on one of the three days. Itineraries yet to be confirmed. Options of cycling to Valencia and to some of the Vuelta de Espana locations are possible.
FITNESS LEVEL: The usual intermediate level that our group has minus the winter effect! Although this trip will aim at picking up our fitness level you should be able to cycle along 60 miles in hilly terrain over 3 days.
ACCOMMODATION: We will share a spacious flat. This will allow us to have cheaper meals and also for people to have rest days if they get injured or simply don't fancy cycling on any one day. Equally, should the weather be really bad at least we'll be able to play Monopoly. There will be parking on site for our bicycles.
The flat has WIFI available free of charge, a swimming pool, a spacious balcony for evening drinks and a kicthen were we can cook our meals. Should we need it, air cond is also available.
PRICE: £290 per person (this price is guaranteed until 15/10/13. Further to this date you will need to ask me for a new quote).
SEE BELOW: YOU CAN PAY HALF PRICE WHEN BOOKING AND HALF THE PRICE BEFORE DECEMBER 2013.
***PAYPAL FEES: PLEASE PAY THE PAYPAL FEES AT YOUR END. YOU NEED TO TRANSFER THE FULL AMOUNT FREE OF CHARGES***

You need to book the event as described. For logistic purposes, PLEASE don't ask to book your own flight or your own accommodation. It makes things very complicated at my end. I appreciate your cooperation. You will need up to date travel documents.
PLEASE ONLY SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT IF YOU ARE A REGULAR CYCLIST. THIS IS NOT AN EVENT FOR BEGINNERS OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER CYCLED LONG DISTANCES BEFORE.
HEALTH & SAFETY: Cycling is fun and safe but no sporting activity is risk-free. To minimise such risk when you take part in our rides you will be expected to ride safely, wearing a helmet and abiding by the Highway Code. No red light jumping, unexpected turns or dangerous overtaking will be accepted. If we feel you are putting other group members at risk you will be asked to bail out immediately. Please note that you join us at your own risk and that by joining us on this trip you understand, accept and agree to take all the risks inherent and expected from cycling on the roads exempting myself and your fellow riders for any accident/injury you may sustain. This should be read as a clause of exemption of liability for all purposes.
WEATHER: Alicante is known for producing some of the finest winter weather in the Mediterranean, seeing only 20 days of rainfall a year and around 300 days of sun. Thanks to its sheltered position, residing at the bottom of mountains and hills, the area has a pleasant and mild climate throughout the year. By March, spring is arriving in Alicante and, as a result, the weather at this time of the year is only going to get better.
HOWEVER, SHOULD WE BE UNLUCKY AND HAVE HEAVY DOWNPOURS WE WON'T BE ABLE TO CYCLE. BEING IN OUR OWN FLAT WE MAY AS WELL WAIT AND GO OUT CYCLING LATER ON THE DAY.
"One of the aims of the Cycling group is to appreciate of our natural surroundings, local towns and villages. We hope to minimise our impact by making sure that we are responsible for our litter. Please dispose of all of your litter and snack wrappers carefully".
