Berkshire Autumn Ride

After some lazy weeks, I guess it's about time we try to get back in our bikes to shed those pounds we'll put back on with mince pies and Christmas puddings. To be honest, weather has been a massive put off. Who wants to ride with the threat of St Jude storm hanging over you? Anyway, it looks as if next Sunday will be rather decent so I thought I'd give it a go with a ride. Come Autumn, Berkshire is always a favourite so there we'll head. A shortish ride, with gentle elevation and the carrot of a lovely countryside pub just before the end of the route.

Start: We meet 9.15am at Paddington (near Platform 1). We will board the 9.27am service to Reading. If needed, there's another service departing at 9.30am. The ride will start promptly at 10.15am from Reading.

Route:  A 63 mile ride with a total elevation of 3100ft. Elevation is gentle but expect a rolling ride. Check out the elevation graph.

PACE OF THE RIDE: The usual 15mph average pace although the gentle elevation is likely to result in a slightly faster pace. Please be mindful that you have no bail out options on this ride until we're 40 miles into the ride (Newbury Station). If you choose the wrong event and are unable to follow our pace you will have to backtrack to Reading on your own.  So please only RSVP if you feel confident about the distance and elevation. You can read more on Pace and Bail  Out policy HERE.

If you are unsure whether you will fit in with the group's pace feel free to drop me an email.

ATTENDANCE: You will have to pay for train ticket and Meet Up fares upon RSVP. Please note that you will ONLY get a refund if:

*you cancel before Wednesday 6/11 at midnight

*I cancel the event

If you cancel after Wednesday 6/11 midnight OR if you have to drop out during the event (regardless of the reason) you won't be able to get a refund.

****PLEASE READ THE FULL REFUND POLICY HERE***

Stops: We will stop once before lunch at about 30 miles. Toilet/mechanical stops as needed. Pleasebring sufficient snacks to keep you going.

Lunch: There is a lovely pub just a few miles before we finish the ride. It's next to the canal and has decent food at good prices (mains for a tenner). We should be arriving for lunch at about 2.30/3pm.

What to bring: Please bring snacks and water to keep you going until our lunch break.  Weatherproof gear, 2 spare inner tubes,  a pump, a mobile phone and some cash. LIGHTS, LIGHTS, LIGHTS...have I mentioned lights?? Also,  a helmet is mandatory when you ride with us.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Cycling is fun and safe but no sporting activity is risk-free. To minimise such risk when you take part in our rides you will be expected to ride safely, wearing a helmet and abiding by the Highway Code. No red light jumping, unexpected turns or dangerous overtaking will be accepted. If we feel you are putting other group members at risk you will be asked to bail out immediately. Please note that you join us at your own risk and that by joining us on this trip you understand, accept and agree to take all the risks inherent and expected from cycling on the roads exempting myself and your fellow riders for any accident/injury you may sustain. This should be read as a clause of exemption of liability for all purposes.

Return to London: We have several services back to London between[masked]pm. I'd like to be back in London before 6pm.

Fees & Fares: £12 for your return train ticket, Meet Up and Paypal fares.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE PAYPAL EMAIL ME TO ARRANGE A BANK TRANSFER

****PLEASE READ THE FULL REFUND POLICY HERE***

Weather: The event will go ahead with cloud or drizzle. However, if there has been persistent rain the days before the ride or if there is a forecast of rain for the day of the event I will have to cancel.

One of the aims of the Cycling group is to appreciate of our natural surroundings, local towns and villages. We hope to minimise our impact by making sure that we are responsible for our litter. Please dispose of all of your litter and snack wrappers carefully".

Lovely crispy sunny dsy. I'm so glad we jumped on our bikes to enjoy the countryside while weather still permits. Shame that we had an injured buddy and that two got lost. Us who completed the ride had a wonderful lunch stop in a lovely pub. I'll keep an eye on the forecast and schedule our next event as soon as the weather is kind again. 4 stars this time given the eventful day! X
Xahad, let us know how your foot heals. Muhammed, next time leave the flawed mate at home :-) . See you all soon x

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
