Winter Lunch in Berkshire-Lets beat the winter blues!

As some of you may know I'll be running  a marathon on 21/10. Therefore,it's all running for me at the moment and only commute cycling. The big comeback will be with our first Meet Up in the new series of Winter Lunches. For those unfamiliar with these rides the winter lunch events entail a quick train out of London,  a middle length ride (50-60 miles) exploring the countryside, lunch in a nice pub and then return to London before sunset. Sweet and short.

Start: We meet 8.30am at the ticket office. We have to buy return tickets to Reading (where our ride will start). Return tickets cost £16.5 BUT WITH GROUP SAVERS we will pay half that price (about £8.5). Therefore,  it is very important that you are punctual so that we have time to sort out the group savers and to board the train. If you arrive late you may miss out on group savers .

We have a service at 9.00am and another at 9.06am. If we can't all board one train we will split in between those two services. The ride will start promptly at 9.30am from Reading Station.

Route: Sweet one. Just 57 miles with a very gentle elevation. Berkshire is a very scenic county full of picturesque quiet roads to explore. As with all Winter rides, the pace is slightly slower than in Summer, so that we can take in the surroundings and enjoy the colours of the new season as we cycle (ok guys I'm trying to motivate you despite the cold weather!).

PACE OF THE RIDE: If you cycle regularly and do at least one long (50 miles) ride each week you should be alright. If you have never cycled more than 30 miles these is not a ride for you the reason being we will keep a steady 15mph pace. IF YOU CAN'T KEEP UP OUR PACE you will be kindly asked to bail out. Mind you, there are not many train stations en route so please join us only if you feel confident about the distance and pace.

Stops: Lunch is at 40 miles into the ride and that will be our first and only stop (unless we need a toilet/p*ncture one before). We have 16 miles to go after lunch. I have chosen a pub on the Avon Canal. It caters for veggies as well as meat eaters. It has light bites and sandwiches as well as some gourmet mains. You can check it out here. Please be mindful that lunch will be no earlier than 1.30pm.

What to bring: snacks and water to refuel regularly. Weatherproof gear. Spare inner tube(s), pump, some cash. LIGHTS!!! and a Helmet (you won't be able to join us if you don't wear a helmet).

Return to London: We have several trains an hour back to London. The journey is about 30mins long. I expect to catch the train back no later than 5pm.

Weather : The ride will go ahead with grey cloud or drizzle.  I will however cancel if the forecast is of rain (heavy or light) or strong winds. This may result in last minute cancellations for which I apologise in advance.

"One of the aims of the Cycling group is to appreciate of our natural surroundings, local towns and villages. We hope to minimise our impact by making sure that we are responsible for our litter. Please dispose of all of your litter and snack wrappers carefully".

Thanks Vito & everyone else who asked and sent well wishes. I completed the mararthon without walking a single step. I very much enjoyed it, loved the experience and I am now looking forward to my next one in a few months. See you soon.
PS: BTW are you guys all still able to attend this ride? If not please change your status to allow others to join us.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
