Subject: [philosophy-197] New Meetup: Let's talk about rights

Announcing a new Meetup for The Houston Philosophy Meetup Group!

What: Let's talk about rights

When: Tuesday, June 22,[masked]:00 PM

Hollywood Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant
2409 Montrose Blvd.
Houston, TX 77006

There has been a lot of debate recently about whether healthcare is a right. Well, before we can answer that question, we need to ask what are rights? Where do they come from? Are they granted to us by God? Do they come from the courts? Or are they "natural" as the philosopher John Locke argued?

Who is right about rights? We have a right, in this country at least, to talk about our rights. So, let's talk about rights.

Please note that, while the current debate about rights is very political in nature, this discussion will be philosophical in nature. This discussion will not be a forum to debate or criticize the details of the Democrat, Republican, or any other political party position.
