June Build Party and Workshop

We will have another build party and drone tech workshop in June! Come by with your drone hardware and build, configure, test, and learn from each other! Even if you don't have hardware, you're welcome to hang out!

We will also have a Group Buy VII coming soon. I hope to add the RCTimer GoPro brushless gimbal and also some DIY parts made by the members of the DC DUG, including:

  • Ted Markson's LED and Buzzer board
  • Various useful 3d printed and laser-cut mounting brackets and covers, including mounts for the RCTimer gimbals, APM2.5 cases, landing gear extensions, battery mounts, frame parts.

I may add a surplus and used parts category for you to get your hands on some cheap leftovers. Examples are: used ESCs and motors, extra fibreglass top/bottom plates for the F450 quad, extra transmitters / receivers. We may even try to do a "drone swap meet" where people can offer to buy / sell / trade drone parts, both used and new.

Do NOT park in front of Nova Labs. That area is for load/unload only. Parking is marked with a P on this map: http://bit.ly/18Sv3Ur

Space at Nova Labs is limited to 20 builds at once, but others are free to roam and observe.

I like the surplus and used parts idea. I could use the chance to try out other parts. BTW if I attend this event, I'll have to bring my UAV trainee (my little girl)

yeah, i think it'd also not be bad to have a "swap meet" kind of event where everyone just brings their used/extra parts and offers them up for either sale, trade, barter, rent, or give-away.

Can you add a suggested kit for a camera?

    1 · June 4, 2013

    • Christopher V.

All of the kits on the group buy will support a camera. The ST360 is the smallest frame I can think of that could possibly carry a RedLeaf or GoPro camera, but that's pushing it. I wouldn't carry anything else on it like FPV Tx or landing gear on the ST360. The standard 450mm quad will easily carry a GoPro and FPV for about 10-12 minutes. The hexacopter will be able to carry more things like gimbal, landing gear, extra batteries, etc.

Chris, on the ST360s, what do you need to do for power distribution? Do you need to make one or order one or is there some trick that I don't know?

I figured the kit would have come with one...

Typically I just make a power cable that splits 5 ways. I think HobbyKing and RCTimer also sell some, but they're usually too long. There's not enough room in there to tuck all the wires. So you gotta make a custom one.

Here's an example of what RCTimer sells. Again it's too long, but this gives you an idea of what i'm talking about. http://rctimer.com/in...=

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
