Virginia Fly-In

It's time for another Virginia fly-in. Come show off your latest design or learn from others if you don't have your own drone. All experience levels are welcome. Please note that we will not be meeting at the main entrance to Ida Lee, but instead in a side area where there are likely to be fewer people. You can find it on the map at this link,-77.572317&ll=39.126556,-77.572322&spn=0.002314,0.004935&num=1&t=h&gl=us&z=18.

I've been flying multis and FPV for a while but just joined DC drones and it looks like I missed out on this one...any idea when the next fly in is scheduled? I'd love to meet some more locals and check out everyones rigs.

Thanks for another great meetup! Had a blast and got to show what happens to my 16 year old kid who really enjoyed it. He learned a lot and had lots of good questions.

I was impressed with the level of participation by all the attendees. Everyone was open and willing to share. What a great time. So much excitement and opportunity. Well done

Zak - according to Loudoun County's online mapping system, that pond belongs to the Old Waterford Knoll Homeowner's Assoc ... am guessing you'd need permission from them to use the pond.

On that note, I see there are 69 people attending the fly-in. Is there going to be enough parking? That's a small lot? And, has it been confirmed there are no sporting events on the fields that abut the parking area? Is the fly-in sanctioned by the Town of Leesburg or are we simply showing up and hoping for the best?

Usually we only get about half the people who say they are coming actually attending, so it's not quite as much of a mob as it looks. We go to a part of the park away from the main entrance where in the three previous times we have been here we've never seen anyone using the area. That said, if we did arrive and find there people out having picnics and playing where we intended to fly over we would leave and not fly. We always need to be mindful that we are guests at this facility and our continued access is predicated on our being respectful visitors. These are all good questions. We haven't had any problems in the past, but as our group and events grow we may need to reevaluate how we approach using public facilities.

Great to hear that, the group is mindful of others ... that will go far for setting the tone of how the public reacts to the fly-ins. I know when I fly my Phantom in my front yard, at least one person walking by will question my intentions. I take advantage of the situation and let them know it's not about the technology, its about how the operator chooses to use the technology. For the vast majority of us, it's nothing more than a blast of a hobby!

Hi. I have a question and did not know where it should be posted. Does anyone have the pre - hex files that would be programmed into an apm 2.5 ??? I would like to make some changes to it but don't know where I can find the source code. Thanks Steve

Is the pond next door (north and east) available to test a boat drone? Is it part of the park? (Assuming it's not frozen over...)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
