Volunteer to Show off Drones at USA Science and Engineering Festival

The USA Science and Engineering Festival is the largest science festival in the United States. It's focus is to celebrate promote STEM education.

We have a small indoor booth combined with George Mason University, to present robots and maybe fly them too, and are looking for some volunteers from the DC Area Drone User group who are excited to come show off some drones to inspire kids - the next generation of scientists and engineers!

Even if you do not volunteer, come on by and show your support - the event is free and has tons of displays (and a LOT of stuff for kids) filling the entire National Mall.

To all those that RSVP to this event by April 1, I will send an e-mail to coordinate everything - where to park, what to bring, etc. The event lasts two days, and we could use help on both days!

I'd love to volunteer, can bring a variety of multirotors if it will help. I have two fpv quads (little and big), and my massive home-made 1meter+ hex with 3-axis dslr camera gimbal. Just tell me what to bring and when!

I think we have enough volunteers for now. We only have a tiny space, and neither the room nor additional badges left for more assistance. You can feel free to come by our booth, but you won't be able to bring anything in (security will stop you).

I sent an e-mail to all RSVPed. If you missed the e-mail, please check out the Doodle link below to sign up for a shift at the festival. For "setup" shifts, it would be preferred if you are someone with a SUV or Truck.

I am a UAV enthusiast. I dont own one yet, but I'm about to build one very soon. So, is it okay if I just come to see and understand more about these drones?

    April 2, 2014

    • Christopher V.

Yes of course! This festival is open to the public anyway. We can't stop you!

Tell me what to expect at the USA SE festival. Indoor, outdoor, flight demos, product vendors, etc.? I don't even know an intelligent question to ask.

    March 25, 2014

    • Christopher V.

Sorry, I don't have many details yet. I will send an e-mail to all RSVP'd when I get more details. It will be indoor, and it is uncertain yet whether we can do flying but it may be possible. This is not a place for a commercial vendor; this event is STEM-focused, so it's more about stuff for kids to do and see.

I can help at booth or whatever. If you don't need help at the booth, I might also have some drone imagery classified or some kind of drone relevant environmental science/engineering poster/display.

  • Christopher V.

It's great that a lot of people have RSVP'd. I think we won't have room for everyone; I will send some e-mails out in April to organize everything.
