May Build Workshop / Build Party

This event is for:

• Current users who would like technical support or to connect with other users

• Experts who would like to volunteer and help others and network.

• Newbies who would like to learn how to build their own drone!

If you have no idea what to buy, you can find some suggestions in our curated list here: (http://wiki.dcdrone.org/KitPartsList) We are always updating this list! Keep in mind it takes some time to ship the parts, so order early! There are some notes at the bottom of the page about expected shipping times.

Some limited amount of extra parts, kits, etc. may also be available for purchase from other members. Contact Christopher Vo ([masked]) if you're completely lost and need advice on what to get, or post in the message board.  We are no longer hosting "group buys", but we can try to accommodate your needs.

We will provide:

• Some extra parts for sale, such as battery connectors, wires, heat shrink, etc.

• Some tools for everyone to use, such as soldering irons, crimping tools, etc.

• Fellow members with advice and expertise to guide you through your build

You should bring:

• (optional) More snacks and drinks to share. You don't have to, but the event lasts all day, so you might get hungry or thirsty. You could also contribute cash for the snack fund.

• Your own tools, if you have them

• Your drone parts! I recommend bringing a box such as an inexpensive Sterlite or Rubbermaid container to stay organized.

...and as usual I just missed the date...
I'm in the Middleburg/Marshall area and would love some tuning tips for my mini D 250 with KK2 FC so if anyone is nearby let me know and we can fly.

Had a great time, if anyone needed to contact me or I talked to about becoming a beta tester for our mods here's my email: [masked]. Blue skies and safe flying.

My son and I are planning on being there about 1:00, but before we make the drive I just wanted to check to see if anyone had a bunch of extra ESC/motor wire connectors that I can buy. I'm pretty sure I have everything else on the list.

Ill b there from 11am - 3pm, see you soon.

I am going to be helping out if anyone needs assistance. I am not bringing many tools, but am happy to assist. If someone has no clue what they are doing we could team up or I can wander the room providing help.

    • Bob In M.

Thanks lots Rob! I need to do lots of soldering, something I have no experience at doing efficiently. I'd really appreciate help with that. I'll bring my Dremel tools for notching routes for wiring to external LED lights I hope to mount on my Phantom 2 Vision.

I haven't soldered in a while, no worries as long as it is straight forward, have schematics or documentation. I would watch a YouTube on basic soldering in preparation... it takes finesse

    How long will it last?

The final location and date and time are now locked in! For a change in scenery, we will host this event at TechShop in Arlington, on SATURDAY the 3rd, not Sunday. The admission fee for builders (those who will be bringing their parts and building) is $20. There is no mandatory fee for non-builders (if you're just hanging out); but we ask if you can please donate $5, this helps us thank TechShop for access to the venue. Also, TechShop does require that you fill out a safety waiver form before you enter the space. And no children under 12 are allowed there.

Chris, I just want to confirm that it's "no children UNDER 12" before I drive 2 hours with the 12 year old in tow. He has the frame built and is looking forward to installing the electronics.

      April 21, 2014

    • Christopher V.

I think it will be okay if he is 12, though you will have to supervise and make sure he doesn't touch any equipment. I will ask TechShop to see what the deal is.

Great location Chris! I finally have all my parts for connecting the LED lights to my DJI Phantom 2 Vision. I'd be grateful for any help in sorting out and soldering the wiring to the power supply.
    Thanks again!

Have you thought about the McLean Community Center? Don't know if date is available or how much they charge. You need to apply.

Selling My DJI Phantom 2 VISION. Flown 3 times for a total of 30 minutes. Hard Aluminum case, fitted with the Lens Filter Kit and includes a UV/Haze Filter and Tiffen Polarizing Filter.
It is a jewel and am selling because my wife is buying me Canon 5D MKIII, and I'll need to build something to lift it.

Bob... what are you asking for the Phantom

      April 8, 2014

    • Bob In M.

      Hi Beckham! I'm asking $750.

Does anyone have an interest in purchasing a TBS Disco Pro long-range quadcopter that has a gimbal for a gopro? I am looking to build or purchase a 6 or 8 blade copter to fly a dslr.

    April 8, 2014

  • Dennis K.

I bought an RCTimer IMP Gimbal. I'll probably need some assistance getting it properly configured.

    March 26, 2014

    • Christopher V.

No problem. I am well versed in tuning the IMP gimbal.

      March 27, 2014

We were looking forward to the next one, but this is the same weekend as the USA Science & Engineering Festival. Choices!

    March 25, 2014

    • Sam L.

And if I recall, did I used to see starter kits being sold or linked to on this site?

      March 26, 2014

    • Christopher V.

You can find a list of parts at http://wiki.dcdrone.o... but we no longer do group buys.

      1 · March 26, 2014

  • Mettlus S.

When will you post the location?

    March 26, 2014

    • Christopher V.

When I confirm a venue. Probably around 1.5 weeks before the event.
