Indoor Fly

It's getting cold outside so for our next event we are going to enjoy a temperature controlled indoor fly. To add to the fun, this event comes with a beer challenge. I will buy a case of beer of the winner's choice (within reason) for anyone who can get their drone to fly a pattern autonomously inside the gymnasium. Use of a VICON system does not count and will result in you having to buy beers for everyone else who shows up (since you obviously have a lot of money). Structured light solutions and grid patterns are welcome. Watchers without systems of their own and pilots whose drones are in the repair shop are always welcome.

Excellent - and perfectly located given the weather!

Sorry I missed it. I was traveling today, but hopefully will be around for the next one. I'd love to learn from everyone's experience

BTW, what parking lot should I aim for tomorrow?

      Parking for SPH Bldg, #255

Visitors may park for free in Lot PP2 (next to the SPH Building and in front of the Comcast Center) after 4:00PM weekdays and on weekends without a permit.

I'd like to show up with my tricopter, said I would but I'll have to cannibalize connectors and I need a prop unless someone has prop reemer. The fixed wing is airworthy and stabilizes, only needs Ublox hooked up to navigate.

IMAV competition rules for 2012 (there's another coming up in the summer of 2013). Indoor competition involves flying your aerial vehicle through an obstacle course (around a wall, in a building through a door, out the building through a chimney, landing on the building, then in through a window and out of the building, picking up an object, going under a gate, and then landing). Whew, that's a lot of challenge for a sensor-poor aerial vehicle....

i'm thinking about setting up a localization system based on placing infrared markers on the quadcopter and tracking the position of these markers using wiimote controllers mounted on light stands.... is that cheating?

i wonder how well the 3dr optical flow sensor works at high speed...

It's kind of cheating if you are offloading navigational processing off of the drone but I'll give you the beer just for the sheer effort if you can make it work. Plus Wii hacking is always cool.
