Building my first drone.
Hi Eli, thanks for the greeting! I got my introduction to opera via the HD Live Met series and they are wonderful. Have had some bad experiences with venues though--I'll share that info with the group as I attend your activities. I hope the Met will do summer reruns of some of the Met Live events I missed this yr. This week I see "Norma" & hear Dmitri Hvotrosky (spelled wrong but you know who I mean) at KC. I look forward to meeting you and the rest of the group. Glad there's an opera meetup!
I saw the Parsifal in the house on Feb. 27. It was amazing. A UMD grad had a small part in it. I usually see the HD presentations in Bowie. I'm debating whether to go Saturday. It's not a first-rate opera but if I go, I can say I saw it. I was in the Math Dept. at UMCP from 1966-2012. Misha Brin retired a few years ago and moved to California to keep an eye on his son Sergei!
Thanks for the nice email. It was a long time ago that I got the music degree and studied voice; I am loving living in the DC area (for 2 years now) and am excited to meet other opera lovers. I see the WNO perform at Kennedy Center and do get to NYC occasionally and will need to schedule my opera seeing the next time I'm there! See you on Saturday. Best wishes, Carrie
Thanks for the welcome greeting. I usually go to the HD encores because I normally work every Saturday. I was in NY with a group the week of Feb. 24-28, and I saw Parsifal at the Met. The production was fabulous. I wasn't crazy about Acts I and III -- a little too much Wagnerian preachiness -- but Act II had me mesmerized. While in NY I also saw Carmen (a little disappointing) and Don Carlo (wonderful). If anyone else goes to HD encores on Wednesdays, I'd love to join them.
Thanks, for welcoming me, Eli. I can't be at Barbara's party because I'll be out of town. Hope to be at the next Meetup.
Thanks for the greeting. By "lots of Met broadcasts", I mean DVD's of various operas performances on PBS and radio broadcasts sponsored by Texaco (I might be a little older). If you guys do a meetup for the HD theater broadcasts, I'd be up for it.
Hey, Eli. Hope to see you next week at the HIMSS Federal Health IT Business Development Workshop on the 14th. Keep in touch!
