A discussion of How Science Deniers Threaten Our Future

WASH MDC will have a small, discussion type meeting Thursday July 24 at Gary Berg-Cross’ house (13 Atwell Court) in the Potomac- Rockville area from 7:30-9:30. This is a pot luck type event and the discussion topic is: Reality Check: How Science Deniers Threaten Our Future.
This is a book by Donald R. Prothero and a 30' or so interview with him will be played to motivate the discussion. The rest of the time will be a discussion of such things as:
battles over evolution, climate change, science education, childhood vaccinations, and the causes of AIDS, alternative medicine, oil shortages, population growth, and the place of science in our county.

Great! Below is the link to the Donald Prothero interview

Derek releases another interview which was conducted at The Amazing Meeting 2013. This time he sits down with Dr. Donald Prothero to discuss another of his books which were released in the past few weeks, 'Reality Check: How Science Deniers Threaten Our Future'. Find out why Dr. Prothero has dedicated so much of his time attempting to ensure the public becomes more scientifically literate, and what he fears will happen if it doesn't happen. played.

" in the case of climate change—a cognitively torturous existential threat exceeding the sum of all our private ones by some incomprehensible order of magnitude—we tell an uncomplicated story about two stark sides. On one hand are the scientists; on the other, the skeptics. The skeptics don’t believe the monster’s there. The scientists (and activists, and journalists) endeavor to persuade them. When this latter side succeeds, the story goes, we will finally take action. In the meantime, we sit and hope that day won’t be too late.

      That story isn’t true.

    July 21

    • Gary B.

Ana, sure. I've heard from one other person, coming from Richmond who said that she would bring a white and a red...With the # who have responded we could enjoy 3 bottles.

So far we have a good group of a dozen or so people.
BTW, regarding directions you can reach Atwell which is off Falls rd by taking 27o off of the Beltware. You get off at the Montrose exit and travel west about a mile to Falls. Atwell is the first right hand turn only 100 yards from where you turn onto Falls.
My house is on a court towards the bottom of Atwell rd.

I can bring some of my yellow folding chairs if need be.

      July 18

    • Gary B.

Robert, thanks for the offer. I do have about 4 folding chairs so we might be OK, but if you want to bring 2, that might be a safety measure.
