With this email the DC Atheist Meetup will have the email list turned on so that all members can send an email to other meetup members. Roughly 500 of our nearly 700+ members have the email list turned on for their accounts. This email is being sent only to those who have the email list feature turned on. Some of you will prefer to only know about possible meetups. If that is true for you please go to the end of this email and follow the instructions for turning off the email list for your account. We prefer to not lose members due to a transition to a more active use of our email list.
We have rather large resources to nurture greater opportunities for social interaction and activism in our region. We not only have the members of this meetup. We have over 400 members of the Washington Area Secular Humanist (WASH) Meetup and over 500 people who left contact information during the wonderful Reason Rally of this last March 24th. We have well over 1,000 people between these various resources even after all redundancies are removed. I am trying to get together a system to keep track of what type of social opportunities this group wants to see. I am hoping that we will be able to use this system to build social opportunities both for us and a future group that is an order of magnitude larger.
For those who would like to talk with me directly, I will be attending a meetup this month in DC, VA and MD. This will give us a chance to talk about future plans and listen to what our members might want to see. It is also an opportunity for those who would like to support these efforts to get involved. Our DC event will be on Friday January 11 at 7:00 pm: Have delicious Vietnamese chow. Tom Fields is one of our new leadership team who is hosting this event. It is a block from the Columbia Heights Metro stop. It should be a good option for all in our region who enjoy the convenience of Metro.
Jason Torpy has done a marvelous job in posting events in Virginia. I will be going to the Tuesday January 15 event at 6pm. This one is a small hike from both the Braddock Road and King Street Metro stops:
For those who live in Maryland, I have been organizing a third Friday of month meetings for years. This will be at 8pm on January 18. Please feel free to join us there: Rockville Maryland Discussion Group.
As of now our member can our members can reply to this or future list email and the reply will go to about 500 other members of our meetup. Please consider that before you post anything back to our list.
Direction for Turning Off or Limiting Mailing List Messages:
There is an Account menu pick in the upper right corner of the meetup web site just to the left of the Log out option. If you click on Account each of your meetups will be displayed with the option to change your “Email and notifications settings.” Near the bottom is a section that controls the emails you get from the mailing list for a given meetup. The options are: 1) As they are sent, 2.) In one daily email, and 3) Don't send me mailing list messages. Feel free to select the one that best suits your desires.
