Re: [atheists-27] Fwd: So Help Me God in presidential oaths

There is a delimiter failure when the person leading the oath, in this case the Chief Justice, is adding words to the oath while leading the oath recitation.  It would be just words if it was the president's own sel-expression following the completion of the oath.  But when the Chief Justice leading the oath recitation adds words to the oath then those additional words become part of the oath, and that is misrepresenting the constitutional oath to the public.  This problem is then compounded by the false history which also aims to convert the godless oath into a monotheistic oath by tradition via misrepresentation.  The method is different (prompting additional words during recitation, false oath history), but the end result of transforming the secular oath into a monotheistic oath is the same.  It is obvious that this goal of converting the secular oath into a monotheistic oath takes priority over honesty among those who are deliberately doing this. And there should be no question that this is deliberate.  There are many people who are witnesses to this, and who know the truth, yet  they keep silent.  Without their cooperation (active or passive via silence) this couldn't happen.  We shouldn't cooperate, we should speak up and complain.

Except you don't say "So help me Allah" but rather "If Allah so wishes".

It's just words - in much the same way as "good bye" means "god be with ye" in old English. Just so long as people are free to choose the holy book of their choice or the constitution to swear upon, I don't have a problem with it.

As for me I much prefer "So help me Great God of Barou". After all, you would be asking for my help in that case and I am not likely to give it.

Yes, anything to break up the monotony of unthinking Christian repetition.

A friend of mine who is helping with our Secular Voter's Forum noted that this country would probably go ballistic if anyone said "So help me Allah."  Wouldn't it be a bit refreshing to have someone say So help me Vishnu or Zeus or Aphrodite.

Don't you just wish someone would say "So, help me Rhonda, help, help me Rhonda" instead?
