Next Thursday, April 27th, the UMD
group will be hosting a talk and
discussion lead by Dr. Irving Wainer,
Chair of Alliance for Science.

This should be an interesting talk and
we hope you can make it. Oh--pizza
and soda will be provided. Here's the
rest of the details:

"Getting to the roots of the anti-evolution
movement and how to stop it"--Dr. Irving
W. Wainer, Chair, Alliance for Science

An informal discussion will follow Pizza
and soda will be provided

Thursday, April 27
6:15 PM
Benjamin Banneker B Room
Stamp Student Union

The talk will introduce the following
issues:

1. The anti-evolution movement feeds
on a lack of understanding of how
science works and fear of a changing
world. Thus, the most effective way
to combat it is to increase the
understanding of science.

2. The anti-evolution issue has been
framed as a struggle between religion
and science by groups such as the
Discovery Institute, but this is not
what it is really about. It is a struggle
for control.
