Looking at it from a fimmaker's perspective, I think it was very well done - the old-skool hip-hop music in the beginning successfully served as a time-machine for bringing any viewer 30+ back to the days of when the catalytic controversial incident occurred and after that they seemed to know how to keep it suspenseful enough to make anybody who might've needed to use the restroom hold it until the movie ended. I definitely will be spreading the word about it coming on tv next week.

Wow, excellent readout from everyone! I will definitely make plans to see this film as soon as I can. If anyone else is interested in a readout from the Forum on Immigration Reform in Black America (inclusive of the diaspora--Black Americans and Black immigrants from Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, etc.), that I attended at Howard University last night, let me know; I'm cleaning up my notes in preparation to distribute. Forum was powerful, and also addressed the unequal justice system and prison pipeline.

I was very moved by this documentary. These children, yes they were children, were bullied and denied their rights and were bulldozed into prison. This is appalling and I am signing the petition at Change.org to ensure that they are monitarily compensated for this abuse they took by the "justice system" of NYC.

Excellent...a very sad commentary on the Justice system and NY literally abandoned 5 children to the police and the racist judicial system of NYC....

Central Park Five symbolizes the brutal reality of our youth being victimized as a scapegoats and lives destroyed by the hands of people clothed in uniform or positions within our "justice system". Yussef comment during the post-film discussion stating that the Central Park Five were kidnapped, resonated with me. It is outright disgusting and horrifying that the Central Park Five and other youth were rounded up, castigated through interrogation, induced or coerced and forced into the correctional system. I will be writing the Mayor of New York, the Governor, and visiting change.org. Also, I plan to write the sponsors of the film for the showing last night and send a thank you for showing the film at TheArc along with having a panel discussion.

The film was excellent. It was especially great to have a chance to meet, Yusef, one of the fve teenagers. I'm signing the petition and encouraging others to as well.

Wish I could join everyone for this event! I'll be at Howard University tonight for their Panel on Comprehensive Immigration Reform in Black America (inclusive of all the Black diaspora). I'd love to hear a readout on the film (and see it at a future date). If anyone would like a readout on the Panel, just let me know and I'll be sure you get the notes! Enjoy!

Is everyone Metroing to Southern Ave and then walking to Thearc? Does anyone know how long the walk is?

    April 9, 2013

Sorry I am driving. I live in SE

      April 9, 2013

Considering today's weather I'd say metroing would be a great idea. If I had known it would be so nice today I might have metro too but I left my smartrip at home.

Memo from the promoters about the screening this evening just in case you didn't and/or for any late-commers, here is the copy/paste:

    Greetings Everyone!

We are extremely excited about tonight's screening and wanted to offer up some suggestions in order to expedite the check-in process. The feedback for tonight has been overwhelming, so early arrival is suggested. Doors will officially open at 6PM and we intend to start the screening around 6:30PM. -Please try to arrive with your party if you RSVPd for more than one person. -As we get close to capacity, ushers will begin counting empty seats to guage space. Those saving seats may be asked to relinquish them if their party is not present.

-Preference will be given to those that have RSVPd first. Once check in is complete, if there is room, unreserved attendees will be allowed to enter the screening.

-Once we reach capacity, no one else will be allowed into the screening.

Is there going to be a discussion meet-up after the film? If so, where? I don't know those in the group so I have a hard time recognizing who is who at these events. Any suggestions on how to identify other members?

    April 8, 2013

    • P. Karen R.

Great, looking forward to meeting all of you. I will try to be at the ARC around 6:15 and hang out in the lobby hoping to see someone from the group.

      April 8, 2013

    • Dunori V. P.

Feel free to call/text me if you don't see us in case things are too hectic in the lobby and it would behoove us to take our seats immediately -[masked]

I will be there and bringing along a friend.

Sorry I couldn't meet anyone on Sunday, but I am glad RSVPs opened up again for this. I RSVP's for myself plus one and will definitely be here for this one.

    April 8, 2013

  • Dunori V. P.

The latest thing I'm seeing on the eventbrite site says RSVP's are being taken until 6pm tomorrow so I reopened the meet-up RSVP's for anyone else who wants to join us tomorrow. I guess it would be wise to arrive as early as possible to make sure there is no problems getting in and if there is, you know what to do for Wednesday.

I just the link for Tuesday and there are tickets available again. I am thinking they are letting as many people RSVP but only letting a certain amount in, so i'm thinking if you want a seat you got to get there pretty early

You have to go to eventbrite and get a ticket (free). Tuesday's tickets are sold out now. I suggested a second meetup for Wed, April 10th Wednesday's screening will take place at Prince George's College in Largo. RSVP for Wednesday's screening at http://cp5pgcc.eventb... .

Roshawnda, I emailed the event organizer to ask for additional 5 tickets. I was told to hold tight because they are going to make more tickets available. I would advise to check back on the website. (in the meantime, I inquire about when additional tickets will be released).

Dunori, Kenya just informed me that the event is sold out. Is it possible to close the RSVP? However, I did contact the organizer via eventbrite if it possible to get 5 more tickets.

Hmm how does one guarantee entry if the RSVP does not?

I was just about to ask the same thing... presuming they might not be counting how many RSVP's and they will be letting folks in until the theater is full?
