The Movie: Jose Carlos Schwarz - The Voice of the People (A Voz do Povo)(2006, 52 min), is director Adulai Jamanca’s homage to Jose Schwarz, a beloved singer of Guinea-Bissau, who during the country’s war for independence, created a music style that unified the Guinean people. (Portuguese with English subtitles).

Our screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion with the audience.

Each week, we feature films and a discussion. Once a month, we feature a Portuguese language film a different "Lusophone" country. These films were made possible thanks to our collaboration with: The Camões Institute, the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at Georgetown University and The Embassies of Cape Verde, Brazil and Portugal.

PARKING:- The easiest parking is probably at the garage @ 14th St, beneath Target/Best Buy.- There is also some street parking available on 11th St, and on the adjacent streets – but, be careful not to park in Residential-Only areas.- Then there’s the station - METRO: Columbia Heights (On 14th St) From 14th, walk up 14th St, turn right on Kenyon, left on 11th – see BloomBars just past Wonderland
