Movie and a Meal: MANDELA-LONG WALK TO FREEDOM

Finally, it's here!!! Nelson Mandela's life story is told in this adaptation of the South African leader's autobiography that details his early life, education, 27-year imprisonment, and eventual presidency and rebuilding of the previously segregated country. William Nicholson provides the script, with Idris Alba and Naomie Harris heading up the cast.

All, great and powerful movie and great meetup turnout. This movie is a must see. We all agreed that Idris Elba should win the Oscar for best actor :o) There was some discussion at my end of the table regarding the movie taking some liberties with the facts, so I need to do a little more reading especially regarding Winnie's role. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

Hey y'all. This was my first meet up. This was a very insightful movie. Didn't realize all that was happening in South Africa. The news didn't really report the negotiations and the civil war like events that occurred even after Nelson Mandela was freed.

I missed this meet up.... It was a little too early for me tonight. I'll just take myself to see it tonight and maybe others can hit me up for discussion later :-D

All, this movie just came out, so I advise everyone to purchase their tickets in advance online to avoid the possibility of NOT getting a ticket due to the movie selling out early. I bought my ticket a few minutes ago through the AMC Hoffman Center website.

The movie starts @ 8:15pm, but we will be meeting prior to the movie @ 7:30 which is a good time for introductions. I'll get there a little earlier than that and will let everyone know exactly where we will be meeting inside AMC Hoffman Center. We'll also get a chance to talk after the movie @ Ruby Tuesday which is next door.

To answer O's question: Any member can post, but they must also be the 'host' – arriving early/ greeting. David's the host for this one, and you'll likely find him near the entrance.

I just joined the group, is there a meetup spot before the movie to introduce myself to the group? I'm new to this so I'm not sure how it works.

I'm definitely going to try to make it. I had the honor of once spending the day with Madiba (my wife is from South Africa, and her family knows him well). To say it was a thrill of a lifetime is an understatement.

I heard it was pretty good (from a fellow member of the group) but I already had plans. I hope everyone enjoys it.
