The Healing Passage – film & discussion on the impact of Slavery

Join BloomBars as we commemorate MLK Day with a film which poses the question - How do we heal from the residuals of The Middle Passage?

Film: The Healing Passage: Voices from the Water
When: January 21,[masked]:00 PM
Donation: Suggested: $10. Free organic popcorn.

The Healing Passage: Voices from the Water (2004, 90 min), by S. Pearl Sharp - For more than 300 years Africans were carried from their homeland, across the Atlantic Ocean ("The Middle Passage"), into chattel slavery in the Americas. The residual impact of this African Holocaust still reverberates in the world today through psychological trauma, genetic memory and community consciousness. Cultural artists, along with historians and healers, explore the present-day residuals of the trans- Atlantic slave trade and use music, ritual, dolls, spoken word and visual art to create paths to healing.

Our screening will be followed by audience discussion facilitated by Madea Allen, certified health coach, chef and owner of Organic Soul Chef, LLC.

I am sending a huge THANK YOU to all who weathered the storm (literally) to come out last night to our screening of The Healing Passage: Voices from the Water. It was not easy getting there and making it happen so I am deeply grateful that we did it anyway. We had a dynamic and much needed discussion after the film that left all of us saying...WE NEED TO DO THIS AGAIN! So stay tuned everyone for the next screening coming in February. Looking forward!

Hey, I still can't make it; however, I wanted to suggest one of Dr. King's speeches that I read yesterday. It was recommended to me by a group that is also discussing the emotional healing that needs to be done in the African American community. Very uplifting. Good questions and answers and on point to the topic of the film. - Where do We go from Here?
