Miles of Smiles, Years of Struggle (2001, 120 min), by Ousmane Sembene. Kiné (pronounced KEE-neh) is a single mother with two children, two ex-husbands and an assortment of friends. She is the manager of a sparkling new gas station in Dakar, but her success has been hard-earned in a male dominated society.

In FAAT KINÉ, Ousmane Sembene, the father of African cinema, pays tribute to the "everyday heroism of African women," and provides a critical look at modern, post-colonial Senegal and the place of women in that society. (French and Wolof with English subtitles).

Our screening will be followed by a discussion hosted by Mwiza Munthali, the Public Outreach Director of TransAfrica.

PARKING INFORMATION - Street parking on 11th St and on adjacent streets – just be sure to avoid Residential-Only spots. Two (2) parking garages are only a short walk away (*14th St near Target, and *Park Rd at Giant Food) and there’s METRO - The Columbia Heights  Station at 14th St, only 4 blocks away. BloomBars is not a restaurant or bar, so no food is served. It does not have its own parking, so we encourage you to arrive on time and take advantage of the METRO or the parking garages, as described above. Thank you!

Come join us tonight! Don't let a few wet snow flakes cause you to miss one of Ousmane Sembene's great films!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
