Film: Favela Rising

Favela Rising (2005, 80 min), Jeff Zimbalist and Matt Mochary's film tells the story of Anderson Sá, a former drug dealer turned community organizer, who emerged from the slums of Rio to lead the nonviolent cultural movement known as Afro-Reggae and help stop the violence and drug trafficking in his community. (Portuguese with English subtitles).

Our screening will be followed by a discussion.

PARKING INFORMATION - Street parking on 11th St and on adjacent streets – just be sure to avoid Residential-Only spots. Two (2) parking garages are only a short walk away (*14th St near Target, and *Park Rd at Giant Food) and there’s METRO - The Columbia Heights  Station at 14th St, only 4 blocks away. BloomBars is not a restaurant or bar, so no food is served. It does not have its own parking, so we encourage you to arrive on time and take advantage of the METRO or the parking garages, as described above. Thank you!

    Sounds interesting! I would love to see that Muhammad Ali documentary that aired some time last year. I missed it when it first came out. Please let me know if you guys will be offering another film screening of it. Thanks

      Hi Alqamar! "The Trials of Muhammad Ali" is no longer in theaters, and paying the screening rights would make it too expensive to show at BloomBars... but, If someone is willing to volunteer their home, we could host a "home" screening. :-)
