At the September meeting, we'll be discussing communication skills, such as problems and solutions you've often encountered. This can be in any stage of any aspect of consulting: marketing, sales, proposal (whether written or presented), negotiation, doing the work, handling complaints, billing, collecting, farming out work to subcontractors, dealing with vendors, whatever.
Have you ever had a client say "That's not what I meant!" or "That's not what I thought you meant!"? How did you handle it? How did that work out? How could it have been prevented? What specific communication skills have you found useful as a consultant? How do you hone these skills? What aspects of communication do you find are widely under-acknowledged or under-developed? How can you anticipate, and maybe mitigate, someone else's poor communication skills? Am I displaying poor communication skills by going on and on with these questions? Don't answer that! ;-)
6:30 pm: meeting starts
7:00 pm: dinner
8:00 pm: presentation starts
9:00 pm: meeting ends
The $2/person charge (please bring cash) is to recoup the costs of running this Meetup. Attendees will pay for their own dinner on separate checks. It would be great if you could bring a friend or three, especially if they're DC-area computer consultants or have special expertise on the topic.
PLEASE RSVP YES IF COMING, AND CHANGE IT TO "NO" IF YOU THEN WON'T COME AFTER ALL.
