Socialist Salon Monthly Discussion Forum

Socialist Salon is DSA's monthly forum to discuss the politics, economics, theory, and practice of democratic socialism. Come to Socialist Salon and share your insights! Socialist Salon Monthly Discussion Forum is generally held on the Third Thursday of the month.

This month's topic will be the Latin American Left.

The beginning of the 21st century witnessed an unprecedented wave of electoral victories by leftist presidential candidates in Latin America. These left and left of center governments have a record of social and economic progress that is truly impressive.

Can the left in the US learn from the success of Latin America? We will examine this and other issues at our next salon which is meant to be a basic introduction to the current politics of the region.

Very good discussion. Like others, I was impressed by the depth and breadth of knowledge around the table.

This was a great meeting, I thought. I really liked the different perspectives and pieces of information we got from many different people at the Salon. I hope to see all of you again soon.

Soctt -- you missed a really good meeting. I'm really sorry to hear about your automobile accident. I assume you've been to the doctor for thisright? Jow serious was the break? Any sense of how long it will be for you to recover?

Great salon, learned a lot from people who know way more than I do. Now... among you folks, one or more has till May 24th to write up the proceedings for The Washington Socialist. As brief or as extensive as you want, but try to get plenty of voices in -- names or not, as you choose. Send it to Jose.

Should we read something for the Salon? And what?

I plan on giving a short presentation at the beginning and then moderating the rest of the night and I'm to call on people who sometimes don't get to speak as much. Would you like to be the first one to get a turn?

The third one will be fine. LOL
