Post Hunt 2013

It's time for the Post Hunt, the annual scavenger hunt held by the Washington Post! If you've never participated in the Hunt, you're missing out on great fun. We've had a group of GenXers in the Hunt each year since it started in DC; last year, one of our teams placed third!

Here's a blurb from the Post website:

"People come from across the country — in teams or individually, in costume or not — to compete for glory, fame and $2,000. Mostly the glory. The game, sponsored by WP Magazine, work likes this: In a day of hilarity and head-scratching, you solve a series of amazing puzzles that will either drive you insane or drive you to a Mensa meeting. The Post Hunt must be on your bucket list."

There's a practice puzzle on the same page:

Details:

Meet starting at 11 a.m. at Corner Bakery National Press, 529 14th St. NW. Bring a copy of the most current Washington Post Sunday magazine; it will contain key parts of the clues to the puzzles. We'll have a table for the group, usually in the rear by the rest rooms. This is a good time to meet your fellow GenXers and get with a team if you so desire.

Once the Hunt is over and the winner(s) have been announced, we'll go to dinner at a nearby restaurant. Last year, we went to Ping Pong Dim Sum and had a terrific time. If you've got suggestions for dinner, though, let me know.

See you at the Hunt!

Our group of 25 or so (5 teams) had a great time. Too bad we didn't place this year, but I think a couple of "golden teams" came together for future Post Hunts.

I'm so excited for PH - this is truly the one DC event that I look forward to all year. (And talk about throughout the year!)

Heather - any word on where we will meet up for dinner?

Funny you should ask! We've got a reservation at Ping Pong Dim Sum for 5 p.m.

Hi, all--The Post Hunt is coming! Here are updated details.

Gathering spot: Corner Bakery,[masked]th Street NW (look for the group at the tables in the back left of the restaurant, near the rest rooms)
Gathering time: 11 a.m., but some will be there earlier to hold tables

We'll meet early to solve the first puzzles in the Post Sunday magazine, scan the rest of the magazine for potential clues to other puzzles, and sort into teams for those so inclined. Players will head to Post Hunt Central for the official game start at noon; others (me, usually one or two others) hold the tables at Corner Bakery for the duration.

Dinner plans: Ping Pong Dim Sum, 900 7th Street NW; walk/meet there after the Hunt winners have been announced

Mommy stuff: It's going to be hot and humid, and you're going to do a lot of walking, so be prepared!

Hi, all--I'm about to send an email update to the larger DC GenX group and will post it here as well.

Excellent! That's super helpful to know. Thanks, Chris!

It's confirmed that the meeting place is Freedom Plaza. The WP Magazine says the puzzles are scattered from Freedom Plaza to McPherson Square, so not as spread out as last year - thankfully!

It is likely that I will bring three people with me, but meetup.com said I could RSVP with only 0-2 guests.
