The Inaugural DCGF Graphic Jam!

  • Jun 11, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Experienced graphic facilitators are invited to join us for an evening of fun and practice. A graphic jam is a creativity and visualization game; all it requires is creative people, markers, paper and words or concepts that have been crowdsourced from participants. A moderator will call out the submitted ideas and concepts and all participants have a few minutes to draw an image. These can be concepts you are having difficulty visualizing or themes you have been hearing across your meetings. By the end of the evening we will have a gallery of ideas to build your visual library. Learn from and practice with others with this fun creative game.

We will have beer, popcorn and the paper. Bring your own markers [NOT Sharpies] or buy some special Neuland GF markers on site (we'll have a limited supply).

Steph & Frankie ~ Thank you for putting this together. I had a great time getting to know others. All ~ It was so nice to see everyone's work. I know I'm still very new to this, but you all made me feel comfortable. I liked all of the different ideas you all had. It was also nice to know that others sometimes also get mental blocks deciding what to draw. I like the idea that nobody seemed to mind sharing their ideas. I can't wait to see future events and collaborate like we did yesterday. You are all awesome in my book.

Thank you all for joining us last night! It was exciting to see everyone diving in and exploring visual metaphors! Looking forward to our next gathering. Stay tuned we will be announcing it soon!

Great exercise, revealing the range of styles and the invitation to freely copy and tailor. Having a break in the action for Q&A helped. This evening involved a number of random actions, which helped stretch perspectives and motivate action to explain quickly. Perhaps the next jam could involve a complementary structured approach (e.g., having a series of related concepts to visualize or even a conversation between two or three folks). I was touched and impressed by my fellow visualizers and how they played all out fearlessly during the evening. Great facilitation by Stephanie and Frankie and useful contributing observations by the more experienced visualizers and designers. This was hard work for the participants and that hard work was exceeded by the thought and physical work to pull it off so successfully.
