- TorqueBox: The Beauty of Ruby with the Power of JBoss AS 7 (7:00 pm - 8:30 pm)
- Bob McWhirter, Director of Polyglot, Red Hat
The power of JBoss AS 7 is now available through the expressiveness of Ruby. More and more projects are suited to new technologies and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails. Using TorqueBox, an organization’s employees can leverage their knowledge, investments, skills, and trust in JBoss while exploring the cutting edge of new development models.
TorqueBox supports any Rack-based web framework, including Ruby on Rails and Sinatra. Rubyists now get high-performance Java services like HornetQ, Infinispan, and Quartz using familiar idioms and patterns. In this session, Bob McWhirter will cover general Ruby web-framework support and introduce the use of enterprise JBoss services with only a few lines of Ruby.
About the Speaker
As the chief architect for middleware cloud computing at Red Hat, Bob McWhirter leads a team of several engineers that is paving the way for the enterprise cloud computing paradigm shift. Named a Red Hat Fellow in 2009, McWhirter joined Red Hat in 2007 and is responsible for navigating the cloud as it relates to Red Hat’s middleware technologies within the JBoss Community and via JBoss Enterprise Middleware. He also created the TorqueBox project - a Ruby application server on top of the core JBoss Application Server.
Prior to joining Red Hat, McWhirter served as a founding engineer at Radar Networks, where he spent nearly two years working on the semantic-Web platform Twine.com. He is also the founder of the Codehaus open source community.
