Show and Tell with Pizza and Beer

Hey gang,
Unfortunately Adam came down with the flu and can’t make it tonight. Bugs happen. But we already ordered the pizza, booked the space, and got the beer so we’re going to do a show and tell instead. Have you worked on a cool JavaScript project? Share it with the group tonight! Have you been secretly working on a lightning talk that you keep in your back pocket for a moments notice? Bring it along. This is how we React.js

------------ previous description --------

So you've heard about React.js, but what is the fuss about? Isn't it just another MVC framework like Backbone or Angular? Not at all! Adam Solove will walk through the philosophy behind React, the engineering that makes it possible, and how to use it to more easily build web UIs.

Sorry to hear that Adam's not feeling well.

I'll present on two jQuery based libraries that I use a lot called Wijmo and Parsley. Wijmo uses jQuery UI and helps my team make grids and forms, while Parsley provides front-end validation of forms.

Thanks Van. Was there, but photos only. It was advised that slides would be provided soon.

My slides only had a few pictures of what we did with Wijmo and didn't have any text beyond a copy of the descriptions of the Wijmo, Parsley, and Knockout.js projects from their respective websites. To summarize what I discussed, Wijmo has a lot of great features that are easy to implement that my team uses to make nice looking tables, menus, and forms, and since it provides a Knockout extension, we use that to have our Wijmo elements update automatically when the Knockout model gets updated. Parsley has been good overall, but dealing with upload and conditional fields has been a little bit difficult and unclear.

Liam McLennan did a great job of explaining how it all works so that it was very understandable. I found the React.js documentation on their website pretty dense.

Anyone interest in React should also checkout Knockout, Ractive and Vue...

    Clarification of my talk: <br/>

Both localStorage and sessionStorage offer browser-enforced "same origin" protection. LoadOnce uses localStorage, because that's the one that persists the way we need it to.

Thanks, Greg, for letting us talk about jQuery again finally! :-) LoadOnce.js is not yet in production at my agency. I'll post the URL to it here after I add one more feature I've been planning. It'll be on my .org site, not GitHub.
