Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is probably the ultimate "secret" sight in Washington, D.C. The gardens consist of 12 acres and 45 ponds located on the wetlands of the Anacostia Rover. It is home to exotic water lilies and lotuses. It is the only National Park dedicated to water plants. The gardens are also a sanctuary to a large variety of birds, turtles, snakes, and fish.
We will meet at the Park at 10:45 for the 11:00 tour guided by a park ranger. There is no easily accessible metro stop, so the best way to get to the park is to drive. There is plenty of parking at the park.
Details, including directions, are on the website: http://www.nps.gov/keaq/index.htm
Where Water and Land Dance
In an age old dance land, water, and wind combine here. Sparkling in the sun on a breezy day, this natural area of Anacostia Park has origins in a 1926 act authorizing parks to preserve forests and natural scenery. The park reflects the history of the nation's rivers and wetlands. Come, join the dance.
