Richard Stapleton will discuss the rapid growth in the use of mobile devices to access health information and will touch on who is using mobile this way, and why. He will also lay out his ?bite, snack, meal? approach to the presentation of textual web content in such a way that one iteration serves both mobile and traditional web audiences.

has been the Senior Policy Advisor, Deputy Director of the Web Communications Department at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
2) Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a brick layer. Building health literacy, one educated patient at a time.
Educating patients on conditions and treatment options is critical in healthcare delivery, but often poorly executed, at best, and overlooked, at worst. While technology helps, reliance on it exclusively misses the broader opportunity and responsibility that healthcare professionals have to truly connect with the patient in the exam room and with the patient's "care guider" outside the clinic in an effective and meaningful way.
After a career as an investigative journalist and then a digital marketing executive in the advertising industry, Simon Lee

4) Patient to Patient: The importance of peer support in the health care research environment.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center has developed a Patient Portal to connect patients on clinical trials to those with similar diseases or going through similar treatments. Because some of our patients have rare diseases and may be one of only a few in the entire country who are known to be experiencing the disease, establishing such support and interaction is invaluable. This presentation will describe how an interactive platform is transforming the way we think of patient support groups.Virginia Hill
Condon, MSW, works as the Special Assistant to the Deputy Director for Educational Affairs & Strategic Partnerships at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center. Nicknamed, ?America?s Research Hospital,? the Clinical Center is devoted solely to clinical and translational research and training. Here, Virginia serves a dual-role as a communications specialist and management analyst. Her major areas of interest include social media as a tool for open government and creating meaningful interactions between government and the public. These interests were strengthened during her 2-year experience as a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) at NIH. Prior to joining the government, Virginia earned her Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University in 2007 and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois in 2005.
5) Collaboration at IPM ? it?s not about Technology
The International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM) is a non-profit product development partnership whose mission is accelerating the development of a microbicide that will prevent the transmission of HIV to women in developing countries. IPM achieves this mission by: screening compounds and design optimal formulations; developing clinical trial sites and conducting clinical trials; identifying appropriate regulatory pathways for microbicide products; and establishing manufacturing and distribution capacity to ensure rapid access to a microbicide as soon as it becomes available.
Over the past year, IPM has focused their efforts on using Microsoft SharePoint 2007 to accelerate collaboration both internally and externally as they prepare for their largest Phase III trial. Their success has been tremendous. During this talk Dee Anne Gavlick will share a couple of concepts that have allowed them to embrace new ways of working practically overnight. Dee Anne Gavlick
is the Knowledge Manager at the International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM). Ms. Gavlick is responsible for establishing the organization-wide Knowledge Management Program strategy and helping IPM team members leverage best practices in information management and collaboration to exceed the organization?s goals. Prior to joining IPM, she was a consultant and SharePoint Architect for Springhouse Education and Consulting Services, a Microsoft Gold Partner. In that role she consulted with numerous clients to define, build, and deploy SharePoint solutions to support Knowledge Management and business process improvements.
With more than ten years of Knowledge Management experience, Ms. Gavlick has also held strategic and tactical roles supporting Knowledge Management Programs at Unisys Corporation, SAP America, and Solomon Edwards Group, LLC. Ms. Gavlick is also an Executive Committee member of the Knowledge Management Group of Philadelphia (www.kmgphila.org
