Trad Training Weekend -- TWO SPOTS OPEN

Hi all! Please use this link:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuEaslvtYmW3dFF5TWxWaHYza0lpMkJ3U2tRM0NPLWc&usp=sharing to sign up for food contributions!

A few notes:

* Grocery stores on the way: I found a Shop'n'Save (745 N Main St ) and Food Lion (542 S Main St) in Moorefield. There are probably places in Petersburg as well.

* Everyone will be on their own for dinner Friday night and for lunch Sat / Sun - please pack accordingly!

* Plates, utensils, a coffee pot, refrigerator, grill, pots / pans etc. are all available in the kitchen - no need to bring them!

* I've highlighted those items that are pricier and may make sense for two people to buy and/or share the cost - if you're willing to bring the full amount please enter your name in both columns

* If you feel you need to bring a cooler to transport food feel free, but once at Seneca there's a fridge we can use.

* Beer's not on the list right now. Feel free to add it or bring your own!

* If you want to bring something that's not listed feel free to add it to the list!

Let me know if you have questions!

Folks. Don't worry about the weather. When it rains at Seneca it typically does so for 20 or so minutes and within a half hour of the rain stopping, the sun comes out. Also the nature of the rock at Seneca is such that it does not hold water, so things dry out pretty fast.

Thanks to everyone for signing up for food! It looks like everything's covered except ribs. If someone wants to sign up that would be great. Otherwise, we'll likely be fine since we're fewer people than I originally planned for.

People driving from dc/close to dc, can you please post the how many free spots you have (if any) so those with no transport can see. Thanks!

Please note, that because of last minute cancellations, the instructor ratio may be 1 to 4 on Saturday. Don't be concerned all the great topic you signed up to learn about will still be covered and a great weekend is guaranteed.

Gang -- If you are tight on space, bring your rack and leave the rope at home.

    June 5, 2013

  • Dave

Jared, is there any reason to bring a rope or rack for the course?

    June 5, 2013

    • Jared

Rack is important. Rope is not,

    two things -
1 - I may've missed it somewhere, but what's the street address for SR's basecamp, where we'll meet up Friday evening?
2 - anyone want to carpool Friday? I'm taking a halfday off work so I'm hoping to leave a bit early, live in Fairfax near the Dunn Loring stop on the Orange Line.

Hi all, I'll be sending a Google Doc around this weekend so that people can sign up for different food items. Jared and I discussed bacon and eggs for breakfast and ribs for dinner on Saturday (we have access to a great kitchen a grill with a beautiful view!). If anyone is a vegetarian or has strong objections let me know! Otherwise keep an eye out for a Google Doc tomorrow!

I can do chicken or most anything other than beef. I can bring something, just not sure about how the logistics will work for storing the food, etc. Also don't want to be a pain in the arse.

      June 1, 2013

    • Amanda

No worries Linel, I'm adding chicken to the list and posting soon! If there are any vegetarians out there speak up now!!

Hello Everyone: Our training weekend is just around the corner. Amanda is going to be organizing food for the group. Right now we are planning on a joint breakfast on Saturday/Sunday and Saturday night dinner. Also, please limit yourselves to 2 and 3 person tents. Tom has plenty of room, but the space is not suitable for 6 person family tents.

Also, please review the chart and make sure all of your information is up to date.

Hi All! I'm looking to join a carpool this weekend. I can drive in principle but would prefer to join someone else's carpool.

Weekend of the 7th is wide open for me right now, I'll be fresh from the Colorado climbing trip, and would love to meet all of you while becoming better with an hoes, robes and belay systems. Let me know if you squeeze in one more. Dave

Would anyone be interested in a happy hour the week before the trip so that everyone can get to know each other?

A couple questions were asked this weekend. 1. I am not teaching. And be thankful for that. 2. All levels are welcome from beginner to advanced. Whether you already lead or are just a gym rat and occasional outdoor climber there will be a group for you.

    March 12, 2013

    • Dennis H.

Since your not teaching Jared , what are your plans ?

      March 28, 2013

Any final objections to this date. I know it is still a long way off but I do want to firm it up so that people can plan properly. Please get back to me by the end of next week.

Anymore feedback on the date? This is the latest we can go for this price? I'd like to firm the date up soon. Does this weekend in June work.

    March 7, 2013

  • Dave

I am fine with the weekend of June 7. If it gets moved back into May, that would be even better and I can probably make most weekends work too with advanced notice.

I've 2nd at Seneca once. Have nearly a full rack now. Would like to improve 2nd'ing skills, work on placement, and if maybe even learn to lead. I sport lead 5.8 in the gym if that matters for anything.

I'm interested. Would this be the "Trad Fundamentals" course on the SRMG website? I'm a new climber but I'm interested in learning traditional climbing.

    March 5, 2013

    • Tom C.

We will tailor the course to your ability and goals.

      March 5, 2013

  • Dave G.

If there is a full 12 people for this, anyone know what the price per person comes out to be?

    March 5, 2013

    • Tom C.

The cost will be $200. Includes two days of instruction on the rock, camping, full use of facilities.

      March 5, 2013

  • Tom C.

Howdy Folks--It really doesn't matter if you're a seasoned lead climber or have little to no experience (just means less bad habits:)
We'll split up into groups of three according to skill level/experience.
Don't hesitate to call if you have questions-
