Top Roping at Great Falls & Anchoring Class & Picnic

Let's go climbing early and beat that heat.  We will go until between noon and 1pm . So make sure to arrive early . Beginner friendly so long as you have your own gear such as harness, helment, shoes and a belay device of some kind.  I have 3 top rope setups which would handle about 9 people. So if anyone has a complete setup and can bring it that would be great. Please let us know in your rsvp. That way we can open up more spots on the rsvp's. Some of us will be there a little early to get the anchors and ropes ready for climbing. If you're bringing a setup, you may want to get there a little early also before all the routes get taken by other outfits.

Directions From the Beltway (I-495):

Take exit 44 for Route 193, Georgetown Pike.
At the top of the exit ramp, there is a traffic light. If you are exiting from I-495 South, coming from Maryland and the George Washington Memorial Parkway, take a right at the light onto Route 193 West. If you are coming from I-495 North (the Inner Loop) from points south or I-66, you will take a left at the traffic light onto Route 193 West. About three miles down the road, you will come to another traffic light at the intersection of Old Dominion Dr. At the traffic light, you will see a sign for the park. Make a right at the light. Old Dominion Drive will dead end at our entrance station, about one mile down the road.

    A couple more things. Everyone, if you are staying please bring a few snacks to share. It always makes it more fun! On the basic plan. 7:15 - Anchoring class departs for dihederals.
    7:30 - 745: Other climbers arrive and move towards dihederals
    Then I plan on working the groups downstream to the different climbing spots. 1. Dihederals; 2. Juliet's Balcony & Romeo's Ladder; 3. Aid Box;
    4. Bird's Nest.

    looking forward to it - I won't be able to stay for the grilling after - but look forward to meeting everyone! I don't have a belay device, so if anyone has an extra or we can swap turns using one, that would be great!

    Tomorrow - I'm pretty confident to rock will dry out by the a.m. If it is nit fully dry we can still climb and do other skills reviews. As for the picnic. I'm bringing my grill and some stuff to share but not enough for everyone. So plan in bringing something to share.

    I'll try to get there @ 7:15 as well. Most of my climbing was done awhile back and in another country - need a refresher and American climbing vocabulary

    Anyone is welcome at my anchoring class.

    July 18, 2012

  • Jared

    Jared's anchoring class will start promptly at 7:15 a.m. We'll meet in the parking lot and move onto Dihedral. All are welcome. Don't pay one of the climbing schools $100 bucks to show you how to tie knots. I'd rather do it for free.

    There will be opportunities to practice placing gear, cleaning gear, rappelling, hanging belays, and rope jugging.

    July 16, 2012

    We have added a few more spaces since Jared is coming..
