My next mountaineering adventure would be to do some climbing at Seneca Rocks. I am by no means an expert in rock climbing and I am very willing to learn. I have done a ton of bouldering but I am still struggling up 5.8s. I am beginning to climb more seriously though and a life goal I have is to do seneca rocks. THis is still in the distant future but hopefully will come together.
Yes, this I have extensive and fairly serious expertise in. I spent a lot of time in Colorado snowboarding and building kickers in the backcountry. I also am comfortable on colorado backcountry at resorts such as Wolf Creek or Breck. I have snowboarded very seriously for a long time. I also race nordic skis. I finished in the middle of the pack in one of Colorado's more serious races for skating the Snow Mountain Stampede. I also have nordic skied in the backcountry on the east coast at Dolly Sods.
This I have done but I am still a beginner at technical climbing. I want to learn but I am very serious about safety and know that many times the risks will outweigh the benefits in my mind.
My most memorable summit would be summiting Mount Missouri in Colorado with my Dad. We went up hard at least 1500 feat of trail to above tree line. Then we planned a route on a scree slope that was fairly steep and unsteady. This is not typical it is always best to not do scree slopes on colorado fourteeners but the trail on missouri from this direction made it the best option. It included the feeling of exposure and clinging to the rocks while slowly ascending. It was awesome. We did summit and make it down that day before the thunderstorms.
My name is Daniel Allis, I am 25 and a resident of Frederick Maryland. I was born in Colorado and have lived and climbed/mountaineered there for 13 years as a resident and student in Boulder and Colorado Springs.
