Hike hosted by Dennis, although I'll be there for a few miles (knee PT depending...)
This hike traverses federal , state , and municipal woodlands along the northern half of Catoctin Mountain in Fredrick County in central Maryland, USA . The hilly terrain is typical of western Maryland with large sections canopied under dense forest cover.
Catoctin Mountain is best known as the site of Camp David , a mountain retreat for Presidents of the United States .
This hike has multiple overlooks , includes ,Bobs hill , Cat Rocks , Chimney Rocks , Wolf Rocks, Thrumont Visita , Blue ridge Summit , Hog Rocks , and the 78 ft. famous Cunningham Falls .
This hike is described as moderate/strenuous only due to distance and elevation gain . Please bring enough water and snacks to substain this hike. We will hike this rain or shine ( no downpours ). There are multiple bailouts during this hike.
This hike starts out at the Manor Area in Cunningham Falls State Park . There is a post with bob's hill trail on it about mid-parking lot , This is where we will meet . I will have maps with me and we will go over the route before we start the hike.
Whom ever signs up for this hike , post where you are coming from so others may see if there's a carpool option .
