Announcing a new Meetup for DC Mountain Madness!

What: Learn Climbing Self Rescue At The New River Gorge

When: October 17,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $166.75 per person

New River Mountain Guides
101 E. Wiseman Ave
Fayetteville, WV 25840

Don't know what to do if you get stuck in a jam? This clinic will give you the basic skills necessary to get you out of sticky situations. In this one-day course you'll learn:

* Prevention
* Knots & Rope Handling
* How to Escape the Belay
* Pick-Offs
* Ascending the Rope
* Load Transfers
* Pulley Systems
* Rappelling with an injured climber

This is for experienced climbers ONLY. You must know how to lead climb and be proficient at setting up top rope anchors. Climbing grade level is less important than general rope/knot familiarity and plain old time on the rock (not everyone can send a 5.11!). Otherwise, the introduction of self-rescue concepts could be overwhelming. There will be a lot of information presented in this class -- it could easily span two days but we're compressing it into one to keep down costs. You must have all of your own climbing gear or be able to borrow some.

If you have any questions about the class or prerequisite skills, please contact me, Jana or Adam.

We'll drive down Friday night, take the course on Saturday and find some local climbs on Sunday. It's Bridge Day weekend, so the Gorge will be hopping with things to do Friday and Saturday night.

We'll be camping Friday and Saturday night at the Mountain State Campground (full bathroom/shower facilities), just minutes from Fayetteville and the Gorge.

Friday afternoon -- drive down to Fayetteville (5+ hours)
Saturday - Self Rescue Class
Sunday - More climbing/unscripted fun

We have camping slots for 15, but only 8 self-rescue class slots. Once the climbing spots have filled, I will open up RSVP's to those who are camping only. You'll be on your own most of Saturday (a little jealous you'll get to watch the BASE jumping!), but feel free to climb with us on Sunday (beginners are very welcome!).

The class is $134/pp and camping is $32.75/pp (total for both nights, they jacked up the price a bit due to Bridge Day!)

Should be a fun weekend!
