Announcing a new Meetup for DC Mountain Madness!

What: Training Hike: Austin/Furnace Mountains (rescheduled thanks to this weekend's snow)

When: Monday, February 15,[masked]:30 AM

Where:
Vienna Metro North Parking Lot
Vienna Metro Station
Vienna, VA 22180

From Hiking Upward:

The Austin and Furnace Mountains loop is one of the most strenuous day hikes in the Shenandoah National Park. Not only is the hike long, at over 13 miles, but the steep descent down the Austin Mountain ridge, and long climb up the exposed Furnace Mountain trail, make the 3000+ vertical feet of gain seem even that much harder.

We'll leave the metro at 5:30, hike will start at 8:30 at the trailhead. (I'll post directions later)

13.3 miles with 3,045 elevation gain, which looks like it mostly comes all in the middle of the hike so not as bad as it could be.

Since this is a longer hike and days are short, we'll need to leave the DC area early. Please post if you can offer a ride to the car-less!
