Begin a new group for DnD 3.5

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • "The Cataclysm" is an idea I've had banging around in my head for a few years now, hoping to get a group of gamers together to make it a reality.
Setting: Non-Canon Eberron. A group of seasoned adventurers (4 or 5), who may or may not know each other, are summoned by a currently unknown benefactor, looking to hire a group to help him acquire artifacts he/ she believes to exist in the ruins of the Lost Continent. The Lost Continent is a wild, dangerous place. What once was clearly a glorious civilization is now a series of ruins and exposed catacombs. Those that adventure there speak often of nigh unreachable riches and artifacts of unknown origin and importance. History of this place amounts to not much more than conjecture and myth.
Set-up: 4 or 5 players. Beginning level 6. XP will be awarded at logical breaks and will accrue for both combat and non-combat instances. This campaign will be lengthy, so a level of commitment to your character and an interest in legitimately role playing the character is a must. In in game terms, if your character begins at level 6, it is likely to progress to level 12 by the conclusion, meaning that a significant portion of your character's life will occur within the confines of this game. This world will be high magic, where a large number of magic users exist at level one and more rarely level 2. 3+ is reserved for specific NPCs and players. Psionics do not exist in this plane. I'm looking for creative players willing to put some thought into what makes their character real and not just a sheet of numbers.
If interested, shoot me a private message with some info about yourself and two characters you think you might want to play.

I could make an extended commitment, but, as they say in real estate, the key is location, location,.... Where are you thinking of holding this? I'd prefer a weeknight schedule that didn't take me too far afield from either Silver Spring/White Oak MD (work) or Kensington MD (home).

I've got limited experience with 3.5, so i'd be willing to partake if more details emerge. Flexible 'rollplayer' and 'roleplayer' as needed.

I've given up on this game. Please email me in the event the GM ever resurfaces.

So do you still have free space?

So, any word of this game achieving liftoff? It sounds like a neat setup and I wouldn't mind jumping in if there's room.

I see below that Kevin said he wanted to revisit the idea come January or February.

My current game just ended, now would be a good time (for me) for this to get going. Basically, I'm saying I'm still interested.

Seems like we have critical mass minus Kevin (DM) who is trying to get organized. What do you think Kevin?

I wouldn't exactly call it dropping off, but life has a way of getting in the way of plans. I am still interested in getting this going, and it had a false start that was my fault and overall the schedules of all involved couldn't mesh. In the coming months, I'm going to continue to work out the plans for this campaign and would like to see who is still available come January or February.

ok, I am a little confused (more a cite problem, maybe it is my sight problem). Who's idea is this (who wrote it)? I'd love to shhot you an e-mail but can find no link to do so. Help!

I'd like to see this get off the ground, too.

I'd like to keep it within half an hour of Leesburg, because I'm selfish like that. Too far away and I won't have the time to dedicate.

I'm willing to drive from Woodbridge and hope we can get this going

I'd be interested if it's in or near Alexandria, or near a Metro station. I am curious about how Warforged came to be in this non-canon world of yours.

The million dollar question: Is there still interest in running this game?

    September 14, 2012

  • Steve B.

    No

    September 14, 2012

  • David

    Did this group ever start?

Are you still looking for players? Depending on time/location I would be interested. Haven't played 3.5; but I have played Starship Troopers based largely on the same engine. Would be willing to host in Leesburg.

where woud the game be payed? I live in Purcellville. Love Eberron. Would be interested depending on place and frequency. Are you looking for DM? Let me know. Thanks.

I live in Centreville, so it's a long haul.

I'm new to the area, long time player/dm and willing to host (woodbridge). I would be leaning towards a magic user type (mercenary background).

I prefer 3.5. Do you have any ideas yet on a time or place? Kevin, are you the DM? I haven't played in Eberron for years, but I love the setting. I'd be inclined to play a warforged melee specialist. :-)

I'm a new player with some experience in 4e, but I used to read 3.5 rulebooks just for funsies in lieu of a game. Would you be welcoming to a new player/willing to help me figure stuff out?

    June 28, 2012

  • kurt g.

Understood. I have too much experience in that realm. I'll let you know if my schedule ever frees up for me to do another long-term campaign.

    June 5, 2012

  • Kevin R.

Unfortunately, I have zero experience running 4e and have only read through the books at a cursory level. I'd prefer not to hamper the experience for everyone while the DM is trying to learn the system while attempting to run the game.

I love Eberron, but prefer 4e.
