Intro to Symfony2

Topic:
Symfony is an Open Source distributed PHP framework. Symfony2 was released in 2011, and is a significant departure from Version 1.  Although this powerful MVC framework is easy to use after some familiarity, getting started can be a bit intimidating.  This session will demonstrate how to get started and some of the important components. See www.symfony.com for more.

Speaker:

Tac Tacelosky has been doing internet programming since 1995, and has used PHP since version 3.  His company is now switching their main applications from CodeIgniter and a homegrown framework, and he is very enthusiastic about Symfony.

Good, ambitious presentation. This was my first introduction to Symfony. I thought Tac gave a decent mix of 1) what the principle hurdles are in setting it up; 2) what some of the practical benefits are of the framework that make it worth leaping over those hurdles; and 3) what other aspects of the framework were worth digging into more (perhaps in future presentations), but couldn't fit in the scope of an intro.

Actually on Blue/Orange the closest is McPherson Square. It's a strait walk up 14th.

Parking is best on Rhode Island (East of 14th) or around the circle. It is free residential parking. Right at 6:30 the South side of the street is available for parking, but fills up within minutes.

There are several equidistant stations: Dupont is best for Red; McPherson, Shaw Howard, Metro Center, and Farragut North are all walkable as well.

    I think Metro Center is.

Thanks Shaun, I Farragut north is the closest station?

Motti, It's street parking. I recommend the metro or ride a bike

Hey, this will be my first meeting. Is there parking available nearby?

Ah, right. I completely forgot about that. You're correct, my bad!

Also, I'm just guessing, but there will likely be plenty of brew left from Tuesday, so hold off on buying any until you see what the stash looks like.

FYI we're meeting downstairs to accommodate another event that could only meet that night upstairs. Dunno if that affects your thinking on the limit. OTOH, this is a good time to point out that in this case seats are limited so if you're saying you'll attend and can't, please RSVP so someone else can.

What's our ceiling set at? It says there are no spots left. It can be raised above 29.
