This observance was established (1988) in honor of senior citizens in the US who made positive contributions in their communities. The day was also created to bring awareness of social, health, and economic issues that affect senior citizens.

A Celebration of Poetry
The Senior Poets of Arthur Capper will share their poems, as well as works written by well known poets. The program will also include a special tribute to the legacy of Maya Angelou and her poetic inspirations; plus, an Open Mic for short presentations by audience members. Please join us!
Poets include Ms. Betty Graham-House, Mr. James Bennett, Ms. Armanda Taylor, Ms. deLores McMillian, and the Honorable Ms. Lois Tibbs.
