Great meeting. So many interesting talks. Shame the AV equipment didn't cooperate but everyone seemed to recover well. Thanks for the great event.

Patrick, if memory serves (well, and actually from your blog), you will be heading up Everest in a few weeks in April. With the training regimen you've been following (again from your blog), I would think you would be prepared to climb to Mars, so I am sure you will be ready for Everest. If I don't see you before you go, absolute best wishes on your adventure. Will be thinking of you (while watching basketball with a Sam Adams in hand), and can't wait to hear about it. Best, Martin.

Martin, Thanks. Yes, I am ready. John and I head out about a week apart. We hope to high five one another on the summit. Enjoy the games and the beer. We will all celebrate in June/July upon our return. Thanks for following my blog. Feel free to post comments or questions. I intend to answer any and all as I climb. See you soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed this QS meetup--great people and leading edge ideas. Has anyone been to the QS conference on Amsterdam?

Just got to the area a few weeks ago and we're excited to attend our first QS meetup in DC!

We're organizing lifehacking events, including our happiness hacking event tomorrow. Everyone's invited.

If you're interested in updates for events we're working on, keep up at the FB page:

And by the way, we're hiring!

Can't wait to meet so many bright people.

Hello all, looking forward to the next meetup.

I am looking into what is available in the area of wearable devices that measure BMR, calorie burn, GSR, heart rate, EKG, pulse ox, steps, activity, sleep, and other useful parameters related to metabolism. I was an early adopter of Body Media and am pretty familiar with it. In recent years the competition has blossomed (e.g. FitBit). From my preliminary assessment, based at least on price and specs, there is a differential regarding not only what is measured, but how well it is measured (or at least how well this is documented).

It would be great if anyone who has a related device (and come on, in this group that would be approximately everybody) would bring/wear it to the meetup, give me a demo, and discuss plusses and minuses.

I am interested in correlating this information to genetic status, then using this clinically, and to assess athletic potential, and improve performance.

In addition to those devices mentioned in the nytimes article there is a second group (generation?) of devices either just released are due in the next few months. These devices claim to measure things we never could before, either with improved analysis of existing sensors or with entirely new sensors. http://www.indiegogo.... http://www.indiegogo.... http://preorder.moov.... http://www.underarmou...

Interesting. Certainly curious to get my "will power" reading, and see how it varies over time. Definitely a parameter that hasn't been tracked before (by a wearable device, anyway).
