Weather prediction is 50 and sunny on Saturday!
Come do a short hike with us while the weather is nice! We will walk fast to stay warm or skip along the trail if we have to. ;)
With its natural beauty, its history, and its absolutely awesome trails, Great Falls is easily the crown jewel of parks here in Northern VA!
This will be a moderate paced hike around 1 1/2 - 2 hrs.
We'll first trek along the Carriage Trail & Matilldaville trails then return along the fun River Trail which sits high above the Potomac River and overlooks the Mather Gorge. Awesome views!
The initial leg of the hike is relatively easy. But the hike will get more moderate as we progress (NOT as difficult as Billy Goat A). And we'll progress to where Difficult Run meets the Potomac and then turn back. The second leg and our return route will take us along some rocky and narrow cliffs. Nothing too tough, more fun really!! Disclaimer: you hike at your own risk.....be careful here--you fall, you die...and the rest of us would have a pretty bad day. At the end of the hike before the visitors center we will stop at the overlook areas to get a good view of the falls. If you get split up from the group we will be meeting where we started for those who want to continue and have lunch.
How to get there: from the Beltway (I-495): take exit 44, Georgetown Pike/Route 193 west. Go 4.2 miles until you come to the intersection with Old Dominion Drive. At the traffic light, you'll see a sign for the park, make a right. Go about a mile down Old Dominion and then say hello to Ranger Rick! If you do not have a park pass it is a $5 entrance fee.
We'll meet outside the Visitor's Center
What to bring: yourself, hiking shoes, weather appropriate clothes, water, cool sunglasses, and 5.00 USD for the entrance fee.
Your furry friends and well behaved children are welcome on this trail.
After the hike, for those who want to, we will go to Great Falls Tavern for some lunch and cheer.

Note: Please only rsvp if you can attend. Update your rsvp if you find you can't attend.
Don’t get discouraged if the event is listed as full. These events initially always fill up real fast. A lot of people who are on the RSVP list typically drop out either one week before, one day before, or the day of an event and a lot of spots open up.
Check back for an open spot if you want to join us. I don't do a waitlist as typically people on the waitlist do not show up when they are added close to the event.
Hope to see you on the trail!
